I received an email today from the daughter of our good friend and riding brother. Donald Chavous left us on  July 29th. We all know him by his handle DonaldCC. She said that he died peacefully in his sleep. I remember him as a good friend and riding buddy. He rode with last on our Death Valley ride. Great sense of humor and very interesting to talk to. He always had some great pictures to show us of his rides in the desert. I know it's short notice but if anyone would like to attend his service's here is the information.

The service will be held this Saturday, August 9th, at 2:00pm.
34-600 Mission Hills Drive
Rancho Mirage, CA 92270
RSVP to his daughter Emily by Thursday morning: emilychavous@aol.com
***If anyone rode with him and would like to share a story and/or photo for a memory book, feel free to email as well.

Please post your thoughts on this tread and let Emily know how much we appreciated Don.
If anyone has any pictures of Don send them to me and I will post them here.

Oh my.   :(

I've never met Donald, but thru this board and pm's with him, I regarded Donald as a good friend.  True, we did spar from time to time regarding politics, but that just brought us closer as friends.

He was even pm'ing me regarding my recent surgery offering advice....and seemed really concerned for my recocery and what I went through.

In one of his last pm's to me, he wished me a speedy recovery so that I could get back on the board so he could resume giving me crap.....his words.

I shall truly miss Donald.   :'(

I extend my sincerest condolences to his family.
I can't help about the shape I'm in
I can't sing, I ain't pretty and my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to

Me and my family are very sad to hear this. Donald I called a friend I have nerve met Donald but when my family was going thru a tough time he reached out to us.  I am very sorry for his family's loss as Donald  seemed  to be a real genuine guy.  He will be missed

Willow

Wow!  What a shock!  I don't believe I ever met Donald face to face but enjoyed his time on the board.  He was very active on the board as recently as nine days ago.

I liked Donald.  Even in disagreement he was always respectful with well thought out contributions to the conversation.

We've lost a good one.   :'(

Oss

We almost met back in April but he was playing golf in gale force
wind and sandstorm. He had offered me a place to stay but it didnt work out

Wish I had taken the extra day to meet him now

Like all of you who posted Donald did reach out in PM and
was not afraid to state his position and opinion

I believe he was both a doctor and a lawyer

But I never held that against him

Rest in Peace DonaldCC

Donald told me (in confidence) he was an MD JD.  We exchanged PMs on many subjects.  He was a very nice fellow.  I am sorry to hear it, and for his family.

Pretty impressive curriculum vitae (engineer too).   http://www.chavouslaw.com/profile.htm

Damn, I really liked Don. I only met him the 1 time on the Death Valley ride but he was always on the board and I felt like I knew him well. He was always kind and courteous . He will be missed here and everywhere he touched.  :-[

WTF !!!

That's really terrible to read.

We crosssed written swords many times but that's a shock.

Best wishes to his family and friends.

The forum is a little tamer from today.

Robert

I am sorry and its a real shock, like all have said sparred on the politic side but seemed genuinely a nice guy. Would someone know how he died, and was it expected or was this a shock to everyone. My best wishes for the family.

I didn't know Don well but he seemed in great shape to me, I doubt that it was expected. I know he sparred with many here, but I think he did it in a thoughtful and respectful way. I know I will miss his posts.

So sorry to hear.  I enjoyed reading Donald's posts and his ride reports.  Well miss you buddy.

Very very sorry for this news. I too differed politically with Donald. In the end, his life is not defined by his politics. But by his devotion to family, career, and a love of having the wind in his face and a phat gurl between his legs. I will certainly miss his posts. May HE that watches over all of us offer some solace and comfort to his family and friends.

So sorry to hear this. I just had a phone conversation with him a week ago Thursday and he sounded fine then. He PM'ed me a couple of times last November when I lost the use of my leg and discussed the problem with my leg. And he also offered me a lot of advise after my first wreck 4 tears ago near Indio, Ca.

He was a great guy I also offer my best wishes and condolences to his family.

Note to Don:
Whereas I never met you in person, thru our remote conversations I thought of you as a kindred spirit.

All I ever got from you was respect and tolerance for differences. :(
You did that without resorting to anger or harsh language... always takin' the high road on disagreements.

You earned my respect as well as that of many others. :cooldude: I truly feel like I have lost a good friend.
Your family is blessed that you were a central part of their lives. :'( :(
RIP, my friend.
On my own way, I am celebrating your life. :)

The first thing I thought of after reading about Donald's passing was, One more day. What would he have posted if he had one more day? What would any of us do with one more day? We have that one more day.
