I was in my truck though, not my Valk.  ;D Made you LOOK!

My old 1997, Rust free, Z71 is probably totaled. I am bummed. No offer from UPS yet. I expect it this week. I did a lot of work to it since I bought it in the spring too, including a crate trans, all new ball joints, tie rod ends, pitman arm, idler arm, brakes, calipers, rotors, all new exhaust (dual flowmasters) etc. I just KNOW I am gonna lose on the deal. Looking for another truck is pissing me off too.

EVERYTHING is extended cab, or crew cab. I want a short wheel base, standard cab, short bed, rust free chevy Z71. They just are uncommon.

If anyone knows where there is one, I might be interested. PM me.

Both my Valks are fine.

I'll probably be on the Blue one at the Hoosier Dragon Round up. But I am only staying for Friday night.

I know someone who has one or use to have one but doubt he is selling, but could ask.  Highly doubt you would drive to southern WI for one though.  There has to be one used if you do a google search on all chevy dealers around you.  Might not be as old as you like it though to save even more money.

Yah,  the regular cabs are hard to come by in any mfg. unfortunately.  Everyone wants bigger and bigger.

Explain to UPS's insurance that you did all this work the last year or so on it and expect to be fully compensated for it as well.  If you have receipts to show them the add ons/repairs you put into the truck will help as well.  Sorry,  no recoup for labor but parts should be compensated somewhat at least I would think.

Around me,  BEWARE of a few UPS/Fed Ex, etc. drivers.  They are CRAZY drivers zipping around like they own the road and drive WAY too fast.  You would think they are in a  go-kart zipping around vs. a several ton square box that CANNOT stop on a dime as you found out.

Glad you're OK, I'll keep my eye out for that short bed Z71.   You're right though, I don't think there were a lot of them produced.

Check Craigslist and Traderonline in AZ. PHX and Tucson. Not much rust out here.

Jabba

Yeah, I have looked on there. I have a friend in Gilbert AZ, and she said she'd be willing to check one out for me if I need it.

I need to settle with UPS and get all my cash in a pile before I get too serious about it.

I am even considering a NEW one, if I can get 0% financing and put about $10K down on it. I doubt it though. $30K for a standard cab truck. Zeesh! How do people afford new vehicles?

Jabba

Pappy!

Glad you're okay, Jabba.

The important question is was he able to deliver your package?   ;)

I hear yah on the expensive side.  My new 2014 double cab (like an ext. cab but 4 full doors) toyota tundra msrp was 38K got it for 34K - OUCH.

You may want to reconsider the new 2014 chevy silverado's.   The price hike for 2014 is a lot on the silverado's thus went the way of toyota tundra.  There are a few used toyota tundra regular cabs out there as well you may want to consider if you can find one since is even scarcer than the chevy silverados.

It's even hard to find a 4 cylinder car out there much under 20K though worth buying.

I am back and forth all over. Now I am back to keeping my truck and driving it even if it is totaled.

It's such a good truck. It doesn't deserve an early death. Just fix it a little and drive it for a couple more years...

If the frame isn't twisted and just the bumper and rear cab/sides needing replacing,  if you can get UPS insurance to pay for the repairs, why not give it a shot?  Even if their insurance company totals it out,  I bet if frame is o.k., it should be repairable.  The engine and tranny should be fine since the rear bed took the brunt of the collision not from the front.

I sincerely hope this is said in jest.   We're better than that.

If Jabba is injured, he should go after compensation, if not, that's called fraud, theft, etc..............

I got rear ended in 06 by a drunk driver. Less than 1000 miles on my tundra. Cops came and hauled him to jail. Took out the whole bed of the truck. My insurance went after him and told me to go to the doctor. Actually did hurt my neck and got a big fat check from his insurance when it was all done. The county's attorney had a son killed by a drunk driver and g hey threw the book at him. It was also 630 am when this happened. Just glad it was me he hit and not some lititle kid walking to school.

don't worry,  the UPS insurance company will be contacting you again and again and again to settle.  Like said,  don't be so quick to settle since neck injuries, etc. can be hidden at first and may arise, among other problems.  Play cool for months if you can get by with another vehicle for now.

I was driving my dad's caprice classic boat machine when a lady in a pontiac sunbird ran a red light and hit us going 30 mph while we were stopped (bad intersection but she was NOT paying attention).  She hit the boat machine driver's side front with her entire front of car.  It moved the caprice 3-4 feet sideways with me HEAVY on the brakes.  It totaled her car had to be towed but the caprice needed a new hood and left front quarter panel is all and was driveable home after I pried the front panel away from the left front tire.

Anyways,  her insurance kept calling and calling weekly my mom and dad.  Mom got sick of them calling and told them to leave us alone since was becoming harrassment almost wanting to settle quickly.  Mom told them no haven't seen a dr. yet but did have whiplash and headaches for a few months afterwards.  Get to a dr. even though you may be fine or feel fine, can't hurt since their insurance will cover the bill.

Well,  a few months later my mom settled for ONLY a few grand and her insurance told my mom over the phone that you know most people would settle for 100K or more but not you and she thanked my mom for not putting them thru the ringer.

So, the next time you see your insurance rates jump up year after year,  remember why when someone requests 100-200K for damages/pain-suffering.  10-20K for pain/suffering plus FULL COMPENSATION and then some for damages is plenty in my book unless you feel lifelong effects from the accident of course.

Am sure their insurance will low ball you since is an older 1997 truck not worth much but stick to your guns and tell them it was in mint condition and you did all the repairs needed to last another 10 years of driving and you should be fully compensated for that as well.

I've always wondered if I ever totaled out the Valkyrie I/S,  would they give me full avg retail at a tad over 7K (I'd want 8K thru insurance since options added) or low ball me on average trade in say 5.5-6K tops which I would NOT settle for.    All my insurance policy states is 'actual cash' value whatever that means.  I say give me what a dealer would sell it for which is 7-8K.

Momz

Your insurance rates should not increase due to the UPS drivers negligence.

Most large Carrier/Cartage firms are "self insured"; that means that they as carriers do not buy insurance like motorists, but agree to pay for most motor vehicle accidents caused by their employees.

Now if you hit a UPS truck with your vehicle, your insurer will be involved and your rates will increase.
