Perception ... and Reality

I rode the Standard into work this morning.  She hasn't gotten as much exercise as she used to over the past couple of years.  I used to tell people that I like the Interstate and the Standard each for their own feel.  I do and they are different but over time I am realizing that more often than not I prefer the Interstate.

The Standard feels lower and lighter than the Istate.  There is some difference in both height and weight but it feels like more than it is.  The Istate's trunk is almost always sitting on the wall in the garage.  It does have taller shocks.  The Standard is more agile and a bit quicker.  You won't experience that, the quickness comparison, with a bone stock Standard but mine is running the Dyna-3000 which more than makes up for the ICM mismatch between the two models.

I put 5.4 gallons into her this morning.  We were still almost fifteen miles short of the estimated bottom of the tank.

I rode most of the sixty miles in a misty fog.  Apparently the radar doesn't show that.  I did find two opportunities to take the glasses off and clean them.  When I did I discovered that a reason they weren't clearing up with a quick wipe was that the droplets were on the inside as well.  Someone commented recently that in the rain the lack of a wind screen was a definite disadvantage.  I can confirm that observation.  It really doesn't take a lot of moisture for that annoyance to manifest itself.

I had less trouble on the flyways than on in-town streets.  Enough speed will tend to blow the droplets off the glasses.  I wonder why we still call them glasses when they're obviously all plastic.

At the toll booth my friend, Thomas, commented on how much better he likes the sound of this engine as compared to Harleys.  I agreed with him although we did choose to acknowledge that Harley makes a good product also at times.

It was a good day to ride.  Well it was an interesting day to ride as well.  I'm pretty sure that fog stuff will be gone by the time I travel home.

Oh, and another observation from this morning - if you get hit often enough and hard enough by water droplets to your face it can help you forget all about poison ivy on your arms.

I got in a 5 mile ride to Wal Mart this weekend... *Sigh*

Sounds a bit irritating, won't ask the source! Reminds me of a Sunday School picnic I took part in many, many years ago. Moral of that story; be sure you can identify nettles if you're going to be amorous with the preacher's daughter. It was a bit difficult for us to profess innocence.

Mine was not a preachers daughter, but I learned how poison ivy feels in a severe sunburn on my back. (What a wonderful 16th birthday present!)

No personal experience with poison ivy.
However my brother says if you have it on your arm, and drop an anvil on your foot, you comment on how bad your arm itches.
I got 160 in Monday. First time in 4 months. It didnt hurt when the helmet went on, and I needed it.

My "Perception" is that your Standard is being neglected and needs more exercise.    The "Reality" is, I'd be happy to ensure it gets it.

I got back about 1500 hrs after a 200 mile round trip for lunch in Smithville Mo., about 30 miles east of Leavenworth.  The fog dissipated after I got a few miles north of the Kansas river valley.  A very nice day for a ride, I must say.  Hoser

I got in a 100+ miler today after house guests returned their home.  At least these in-laws apologized for not allowing me to ride for the past week.  The rain that we have experienced over the last several days cleared up and with temperatures in the mid 70s it was a great day.

It is sometimes a bewildering question.  They are not actually independent or necessarily intersecting paths.  Our perception is in truth what we, or our thought process within us, believes reality to be based upon the evidence we have absorbed and considered.  Sometimes our perception changes as we absorb more evidence or disregard some we have previously considered.   Reality is not dependent upon our changing perceptions.  How closely our perception draws to reality depends upon how much of and how well we consider evidence.

My Interstate has also been neglected recently.  Probably not ridden 50-60 miles since returning from Inzane.  Something about life continuing on and then cataract surgery on both eyes.  Doc says I should not ride for at least the next two weeks still.

I have started it up a few times in garage.  Actually backed it out today and ran it for a while, then rode it back into the garage.  Just fudging a little bit.

But, sitting on the bike and looking up at the beautiful vision being seen through these new eyes sure made me want to get out and roll.

I may not last the two weeks.  I do have some good sun glasses with rubber all the way around that would protect my eyes..........

Different doctor; different patient.  The day after my second eye was replaced (cataract surgery) I rode to Panama City for a gathering.  I will confess that after nightfall the oncoming lights looked a little strange.

When a doctor tells me I shouldn't ride for a recovery period I'm likely to ask him when he last rode.  Almost always turns out the doc has never been a rider.

Docs are too cautious.  Unfortunately, my doc always tells my wife that I should not be riding after various "repairs" and while I can ignore the doc, it's not prudent for my long term health to ignore the wife.

Hmm.  Didn't know shields were an indicator of age.  Heard that about wings, which I have one so maybe...  Though chronologically I'm a year or so behind you.  But I may have used up more of my lives through some hard living and choices.
