That was different

Usually when folks look over the Valk, they ask "Is that a Harley?" or "What kind of Harley is that?"  Today's question took me by surprise.

I went shopping on my 2003 standard with the sidecar attached.  As I was loading my purchases in the trunk of the sidecar, a man approached.  He was looking over the bike and asked what year it was, then said "They haven't changed much since 1996"  Huh?  I told him the first year was 1997, that they were made from '97 to '03.  He said that the SHADOW had been out longer than that.

I pointed out I had six cylinders to the Shadow's two, which he had just noticed.  But he wasn't impressed.

Oh, well.

Went for short ride on the way home yesterday (the long way home).  Stopped for gas close to the house before going home. 

Two Harley riders pulled up to the pump next to me.  Two younger guys....maybe late twenties or so. 

I'm sitting on the bike filling it up....one of them walks up to me and asks....."is that a V-8?"   

Said no, it's a flat six.  Asked how much I paid for it.  Told him a tick over 5 grand.  His eyes got real big and said "is that all...how old is it...I thought it was new?"

Told him it was a '97 and I put about 3 more grand in it making it mine. 

Told me they should make them again. 

I said, yes they should.

I see new Valk prices already dropping like a stone. Honda thinks they did start making them again but they sure DID NOT ....

One of the oddest I had was "Woah! Someone put a Porsche engine in a motorcycle???"

(Well, they DO both use flat 6's I guess...)

When I had the Valk someone commented that it was a real nice THREE cylinder bike.

you were sitting on your bike filling it up? you have yet to get the one pump that doesnt shut off just right and spills gas into your nether region yet have you?
