Yes we are doing turkey day as a family tomorrow. But before the feast begins my brothers, myself my stepson and possible my dad are going Skeet shooting. We try to do it every year. Doesn't always work out but usually it does. We have done it in all kinds of weather. Snow, cold, wind. Although wind is fun because as soon as the birds come off of the launcher they go nuts. Makes for a challenge.

I have a launcher that I made a nice bracket for that mounts to my hitch receiver on my truck. It comes out far enough that you can just sit on the tailgate, load and fire it.

I will be taking my Browning Auto Five 12 guage. My O/U Stoeger 12,my Remington 870 12 and my sawed off H&R single shot 20. Barrel is 18.5 inches. you can shoot skeet with it. Just got to get them FAST. LOL. I will probably shoot the Browning the most though.

Anyway you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving, I know I will.....

Makes two of us, on the pic of your hitch mount thrower. Never thought of that but, the wheels are turning now. I bought a cheap thrower years ago. Does an admirable job. Just a PIA keeping it stable. Pics would be great.
Happy Thanksgiving to all. Enjoy those "Traditions", time well spent!
Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it!

When my father-in-law was alive we would head for the farm for Turkey Day and the weekend, spent at least 2 days and sometimes 3 days hunting, then fly back to California.      Man that was a good long wekend.  loved every minute of it.

After dad passed, that tradition kind of fell into the way side.

The daughters sold the farm and the nearby neighbors either all died or moved to Southern US.   So I don't know any of them to go ask to hunt.     Besides a non-resident license in Missouri is priced way out of line.

Too hard to find a farmer who will let you on their land anymore.

So this year, we are going to the youngest daughter's for dinner and her clan will watch a bunch of football.    I'll opt out for a nap instead.  LOL.

Daughter's current friend is doing the cooking.   Don't know if he is any good or not, but since I was in the Marine Corps and ate anything put in front of me, I'll survive.    :cooldude: :cooldude:

I just got back from our Thanksgiving shoot.  Mark, my son, had posted about the setup for the skeet thrower.

I had a camera so here is a pic of it in action for you two who asked about it.

Looks like fun.  Maybe in the spring I can throw a couple of shotguns in the trailer and talk you into taking it out again.

Happy Thanksgiving to your family from mine.

Well there you go guys. A couple of pictures of the launcher. Its a cheaper thrower I got many years ago. I originally tried to mount it to the ground using large pet leash screws. That didn't work. kept coming loose. Than I mounted it to a old spare tire but every time you used it the tire would move. Than I saw this type of bracket in a catalog but it was way over priced. So I built my own. Got a couple of pieces of 2 inch square pipe. Welded them together at a 45 degree angle with gussets at the weld point for extra strength. Than welded a plate on top for the launched to mount to and viola. As you can see it works really well. You can just sit on the tailgate and activate it with no problem. Want to change the angle of the launcher?  Just move the truck.

In the pic  from left to right is My brother Wayne,Brother Chris, sitting on the tailgate my stepson Anthony and then me shooting my sawed off 20 gauge H&R. To shoot birds with that gun you got to get them fast.
