Windshield Installation

I  recently purchased a 99 Standard that did not come with a windshield.  I believe I found a used one from a Tourer but it does not include any hardware that mounts on the forks to attach it to.

The windshield itself has hardware that has provisions for mounting to the bike.  Does the installation require a special connector  on the fork or does the fork already have bolt holes to mount the windshield to.

2, 3 and 4 is around $160 worth of stuff.

Does your windshield seem like it has everything else? All those parts cost over
$1000 new these days... there's some nice aftermarket windshields... the OEM one is
really nice though...

Yes, it seems to be complete.  My concern is the mounting brackets 13 and 14 on the diagram, what do the bolts 15 attach to.  Do the just bolt to the forks or do I née extra hardware to mount it?

You have four #15, two each side. The upper ones bolt into #3 & 4 on each side, the lower #15's bolt into #2. The #3/4 bolt up under the top triple tree. The #2 bolts to the bottom tree, sits on top of it. There are no holes in the forks themselves to mount the windshield, you use the parts mentioned.

Parts 13 & 14 on the windshield attach to parts 2, 3, & 4.  Parts 3 & 4 are attached to the underside of the triple tree top bracket, part 2 is installed on the headlight bracket. Once these parts are installed you will be able to mount the windshield. Good luck.

Thanks to everyone for the info.  Parts 2,3,ad 4 do not come with the windshield.  Therefore it looks like this coulld turn into an expensive option.

I have a 97 standard with a rifle fairing that I replaced.. caus the bottom part of the windshield broke off... I saved the fairing and the mounting hardware (which wrap around the fork)... if you will pay me for the shipping I will ship  the entire unit to  you and you can use what you need.

In a word....YES!  You'll need to buy the bolts for the upper brackets to bolt into the top tree(two each 8mm dia. X 16mm long). It's a bit tight to get in there to put them in place but usually turning the forks all the way in either direction helps.

I just went through the same conversion and like you I had problems locating the parts for the fork. Luckily, my father in law was an electrician and I remembered a part we used on a project once. It was a 2" wrap around strap that has a "stand off" with a hole in it for a bolt. Hard to explain, there IS a damn name for it, but for the life of me I can't remember it. That said, I found an OEM windshield in the Valk classifieds and it is THE best. WAY better than aftermarket stuff. I did not see where part number did anything at all for me, so skip that one.

I am going to try to snap a photo of what I did, the brackets cost me $1.29 a piece at Home Depot and after a bit of American ingenuity  I got them to work great.

It was part number 2 that I found unnecessary with the OEM windshield. As soon as I figure out how to attach the photos, you will see what I did.

I could understand improvising if that brace that goes under the headlight (part#2) was missing, but if you have it, its a much cleaner installation over clamping the forks IMO

I don't believe that it will work..part 2 does not exist on my shield
