rubber surrounding air tubes

My 97 Valk standard has 3 air tubes on each  side that apparently pump air into the cylinders... here's my question: there is a rubber "sleeve" that seems to be attached to the engine under the carbs...where the air lines come out of them. the air lines seem to be stainless steel.  where the rubber ends, and the air line comes out...the rubber seems to be oozing fluid slowly out through the end of the rubber... all six of them. Now, I have a Honda shop manual and a clymers... but they don't seem to  indicate these. I know there's a water line somewhere that apparently goes into the water jacket... does anyone know what  these rubber "sleeves" are, and what could possibly be oozing out through the material? I took an intake runner off one of the cylinders and cleaned the rubber, but it still seems to leak. also, how  are these attached to the air lines? there seems to be no clamps anywhere on them, and the space under the carbs is too tight to really get in there and look around. thanks.. you guys and gals are the best!!!!

If I am not mistaken, you are talking about the smog devices...many folks pull the whole shootin' match out, and put in a desmog kit to rid thier bikes of the issues that comes with older emissions.  Shoptalk has a couple different write ups as to how to go about doing all this.  This can also show you diagrams as to figure out what parts you are referring to.

Also you might check the "drool" tube that comes out under the bike on the right side. It will have a small plug in the end with a clamp to hold it. Remove the plug and see if you get a bunch of oily residue drain out. After it drains, replace the plug and check it again in a few thousand miles.

Are you referring to the air intakes from the carbs to the cylinders? If so, this could be failed O-rings on the air intake runners, allowing a "fuel" leak, looking like dirty water on the top of the cylinder heads.

No, I did have that problem..n I did replace those o rings...n it did clear up the fuel leak.. this is behind the air intake runners.. very thin lines.. I'll try n take a pic
