She was a limp dishrag of a dog. 

She was half black lab and half dachshund. 

She looked like a slightly smaller regular looking black lab, except she had an elongated breast bone like a dachshund does. 

She loved the beach.

Allie, shortly after we rescued her from a shelter in Chattanooga. 15 minutes before she was to be put down because of being a Staffy, pregnant, covered in mange and abused.


After being nursed back to health with 1 of her pups we kept (Mocha) All pups were fixed and up to date on shots before placed in loving homes.

Damn good on ya Dave! I have a very good friend in London that rescues staffies and EBT's. Beautiful dogs and I see they know where their favorite spot is!

Sadly, staffies also suffer from being branded as vicious by the uneducated. Anyone that rescues one of these great dogs has my ultimate respect.

I remember when everyone was petrified of Dobermans.

As a kid delivering newspapers I had a doberman on my route that became my best buddy.

Pit Bulls are experiencing a BAD REPUTATION right now for sure.

I have never encountered a vicious one, the fact is that ANY dog can be turned into a vicious dog if that type of behavior is encouraged.

We have a lab/plott hound mix that is one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet.

But, he is extremely protective of my wife and would tear someone to shreds in a heartbeat if he thought that someone was hurting her.

The reason that we domesticated dogs in the first place was to guard and protect us.

This is part of their natural instinct

When we were in Texas with my first wife German Shepherds-according to one guy at work-were dangerous.  Got my 4 kids a German Shepherd pup and told them-don't kill it. My in laws came down from Alaska and the twins were still in diapers. My M I L was patting both the twins on the butt-NOT hurting them but plastic diapers are noisy. She was doing that again when Blitz grabbed her arm and stopped her.  The LOOK on my M I L face was priceless!  Blitz THOUGHT she was trying to hurt "his" kids. If Blitz was around Mom didn't pat them on the diapers after that. I was on the road and we normally didn't get door to door salesmen. One came to the house and Blitz got between the door and my wife. Wife said he needed to see me and the dog was making him nervous. Wife said I'd be home the next day and come on by BUT you need to know it's his dog. NEVER did see that salesman.  RIDE SAFE.

Deputy Spots Pit Bull On The Loose, Ends Up Befriending Goofy Pup

One policeman made a pretty unlikely pal while on the job.

Deputy Mark Elsaid of the Lee County Sheriff's Office in Florida was on patrol earlier this week when he spotted a pit bull not on a leash, Tiffany Wood, one of the office's public information officers, told The Huffington Post. Neighbors told Elsaid that they were concerned that the dog might possibly harm local children. Elsaid then approached the animal and quickly realized that the pooch was just after some TLC.

Your pic of the dogs in the living room with white fluff all around brings back memories of my Great Dane. I walked into the front door and it was like a pillow fight with all the fluff around. Turns out he ripped the arm off one of my good upholstered chairs, I was upset at first but then laughed, the arm was gone totally I had never seen anything like that.

I think those were Dave's pics of Mocha & Allie. But be sure that Maya, Bear & Zeke have left their share of fluffy white bits on the floor as well. Maya in particular. You can't get mad at stuff like that....only laugh and look at that innocent look they have on their faces!

not a terrier, but a lab+? mix we picked up from the dog pound. someone told me she might have pit-bull in her, so far I haven't seen any aggression. she is loving and has to give me a "present" every time I come home. whether its an old bone or a nut or a leaf, she has to give me something along with a wagging backside!   not just a tail...



Sasha thinks she's a lap dog! our cat was on my lap getting petted, sasha got jealous and nudged her out of the way, then leaped on my lap, hehehe.

Can I tell my Pitbull story ?

In the same condo complex we were once staying in for several winters there was also a young Navy fella living there with his Pit. The dog would tow him around on his skateboard and never seemed to be of any trouble.
I would take our dog at that time, a 10.5# ' little crap Su' for walks about every morning. If I walked alone all the ladies would ignore me, but, with that little dog they would all stop and talk. That was incentive enough for me.
Ran into that fella numerous times with no issues. One morning I heard a door open and just happened to look in that direction. This fella was just coming out along with the dog. The dog wasn't on the leash at that moment and saw my dog. He came running. I snatched up our dog while the Pit jumped up and grabbed the dog. He caught the dog in the chest and neck and the harness took most of the grab. With my other hand I grabbed the Pit and did what I could to get it to let go. I guess I had it by the mouth and squeezed hard enough to get his lips tangled up with my fingers and his teeth that he let a yelp and let go. I didn't think they were supposed to let go, but it did. Anyway, the owner was on a run to get the dog and couldn't have been more apologetic and said nothing like that had ever before happened and knows now to hook him up before opening the door.
There wasn't much damage to our dog, just a few pretty good cuts to the neck.
Still ran into them several more times after that and all was fine except our dog showed quite a bit of concern and wasn't about to get too close so I would just pick her up.
Could that have happened with another dog, sure. I just have to wonder if that would have happened with one of our 100# Labs.

I guess I should also add that I've had dogs all my life, but, there are some that I never turn my back on. Very few, but there are some.

  When I was in LE I had working dogs. All were shepherds and not American dogs. All were German  and top of the line animals. Great dogs to work with and I took them home every night at the end of my shift. Trained in German to keep the idiots from using a common word like 'attack' and winding my dogs up unecessarily.
  I never worried about leaving him home with the family while I was gone. If you knocked on the door and we said come in, they were fine. Walk in and you would get your ass eaten off. My friends /family could walk in and  never had a problem with my last dog, Felsig Vom Harvey, known as Rocky. This dog had it all, work and social skills.
  Shepherds get a bad rap just like some other breeds but any dog is only as good as it's owner! I had 3 working dogs over the years in LE all trained in track, attack and building search. We had saves and finds and what a reward this was.
  None of these dogs compared to a dog that strayed into  the yard 14 years ago. He was hurt and homeless. The weather was crap and I found him lying on my steps wet and shaking. He was also bleeding. I know better but brought him in on the porch. I had an old afghan and put it on the floor. He stayed on it all night. Next moring he was still on it and I took him to the vet.
  Doc Jim fixed him up and he never left. Petey was a mut and was the best dog I ever had. A real friend! He was smarter than all my shepherds combined and stayed by my side for 12 years. Pete has been gone for 2 years now. I  have  tears in my eyes so I will stop. I MISS HIM WITH ALL  MY HEART. DOGS ARE THE BEST!
