Subwoofer for Interstate

I've been over on a thread asking questions about stereo amps so it got me thinking. Who has installed a subwoofer on thier bike. I was thinking of mounting an 8" under my  trunk and then fabricate a spacer to drop it down an inch or so which should help from taking up too much room inside the truck. Anybody thought about this or see a problem with my idea?

Wish I could help you with personal experience, but I don't have an Interstate. I've seen it done though, and it's doable. Careful selection of your components and be sure to re-enforce the speaker mounting area or baffle.

I have installed a sub on my F6B, but that is a different animal.

I have a very loud stereo on my Valk, but it is a Standard with a Woody's Batwing and 6 Kicker speakers and all Kenwood electronics.

I am curious!!! Why would you put a sub woofer on a bike?  A bike is probably the environment for a sound system. If you are concerned with quality sound, why don't you just wear a head set.  That way you can crank it up all you want and give the illusion of a perfect room. I am for or against it, just wonder why!!

Why? Because we can. Why do we add chrome, a custom seat or go to the darkside. This all started with upgrading the stock speakers and the pursuit of better sound quality. Even with the polk speaker upgrade the sound just isn't enough at cruising speed. Buds in the ears may work but I already have a sound system. The addition of an amp and a sub should not only sound great its just one of those custom pieces that make your ride unique.

I agree with you, because we can, I guess! Chrome, seats, darkside are all personal, and have meaning to the bike owner. We like to personalize our toys. Now when you run a system full bore, because you are trying to obtain quality music, don't make sense to me, sound of wind is not part of the music. I had an amp and speakers on my fairing, it did not have speed volume, I noticed that at stop lights, I was infringing on people that were around me, peace of reasonable sound, and felt I was be selfish.  So I went to head set. Doing things to your ride is fine, but to me, I feel I don't have the right to let my personalizing to be forced on others. We all share the road!!  AGAIN!! I am not judging anyone, I am just trying to understand it, my adjustment is my choice.

My sound systems on both bikes way rival the headset speakers in my helmet. Some quality ear buds do a good job, but I don't like messing around with them.  Plus ear buds or helmet speakers lack the sound pressure impact that can really add to the sensation of a lot of music.

As far as people around me, huh how many here are running the stock exhaust pipes?

Besides that relevant comparison, I do have a volume control on both bikes that works .

The sub on my F6B puts out quite a bit of bass.

I tried helmet speakers once, must have done something wrong as I couldn't here any bass, I do better with the bike speakers. The ear buds I tried weren't any better for bass and I guess you need something special to work with a helmet. My IS radio is no good at speed, MP3 through the IS system works pretty good. I walk with a head set and it sounds great, wish I could fit it in my helmet!
