FINALLY, the temps aren't like the surface of the sun, still kinda warm in traffic when it's 88 degrees. Went over to Costco, regular is $1.95, hi-test $2.35. Then a short ride to stir the fluids a bit, stop to pick up some Techron, then home. After a two month hiatus it felt good to be back on the old girl again, but still have a loud metallic clank from somewhere on the left side it seems. I can't locate it, driving me nuts, almost sounded like something internal on the left shock. But when I'd ride down the street with my hand on it and hear the clank I feel nothing. I'd like to find it, don't like surprises....especially if not near home. Guess I'll keep riding it until I narrow it down.

Upper shock bushing, when they wear you can get metal to metal contact.

Life is like a hot bath. It feels good while you're in it, but the longer you stay in, the more wrinkled you get.

I did a 180 mile run yesterday.  It was hot on the ride home, especially sitting at the lights in Crystal River.

+1 on shock bushing.  Suffered that last year.

Guess I'll have to pull the bag on that side and take a look. Hate having to do that but a necessary evil. I replaced the bushings a couple years back and haven't put that many miles on them. Guess it's possible one has degraded for some reason.

Check the upper ones, just pop the seat off. Bottom ones seldom go bad.

Again I agree with Grumpy.  My top ones lasted one year, but that was the year of the Alaska trip. They also were the aftermarket one.  I am now running VTX bushings, changed top and bottom just because it was fun to do all 4.

Pulled the left shock this morning, nothing re. the top bushing. The bottom has a double metal insert and the inner one seemed rather warn allowing the bolt to move around inside it. I pressed in a new one and the lower bolt can just slip through now. I'll have to see how it is later, no time to ride at the moment but hope that was it. I'll post about it when I do ride.
