Need help with question

Alright fellas

Is there some trick to pulling the starter?  I've removed three bolts and tried to pull the starter motor back but it still feels like something is locking it in internally. What am I missing? Before I break out the XL screwdriver ( for leverage ), I thought I would hit the Valk group up.

No help here as the starter is not something that usually goes bad.

I had to be the alternator once.

When I was trying to start the bike last time, I heard a grinding noise. Now when I run the engine a pushe the starter while the bike is idling, I can hear what sounds like ball bearings bouncing around. If it's not the started what else could it be?

Uh don't push the starter button with the engine idling !

What you are hearing is an over-running clutch. It keeps the engine from driving the starter if the solenoid were to get welded contacts. It is not necessary or prudent for you to test that in the manner you describe. But yours is working as designed.

I haven't replaced a 1500 starter, but the 1100 starter has nothing but an o-ring holding it in that crusty bore once you remove the bolts. Spray some lube in there.

The Clymer manuel says to remove the seat and the center cover (for clearance), but after re-reading your post I guess you have not moved the starter at all. The o-ring area might be holding tight, I would be gentle.
