NEED WIDER PILLION SEAT SOLUTION - Help

I am looking for a wider pillion seat solution for my better half. She suffers from fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis and needs something more comfortable.

Whatever the solution, it needs to fit behind the stock driver's seat and use the same mounting points as the OEM pillion seat.

Anyone out there have any ideas?

Apparently, with a little modification, a drivers solo can be made to work.  There can be a problem getting the bag lids open on a tourer/std with OE bags, that have lids on hinges coming straight up.

There was also discussion of cushions and sheepskins.

The Ultimate pillion is much improved over stock. I'm not sure how it would look with a stock riders seat though.

There was this extra wide seat that sits on top of your existing seat. Couldn't find it, and don't have it linked too.

My wife has a wide enough seat as it is, , , and so does the bike. She only complained about comfort on our 12 hour days going to Spearfish, no other rides yet.

Now myself, that is a different problem. Sore after only a few hours. I bought a used Airhawk, and am waiting for a long ride to try it out.

My wife has serious back problems and she could not sit on my Yamaha Dragstar for more than an hour at the time before she needed a rest. That was until I got a tip of footpegs extention and installed them. Aft the installation , she could ride for more hours!
The first thing I bought for my Valk when I got it, was same extentions and they make a BIG ifference for her comfort.
Higer foot pegs gives a different angle and possition for both the legs, foot , but more important the butt itself. Before installation she was sitting on a point of her butt while with the extensions her leg were lowered and more of her butt and thighs touched the seat. It gave a total different pressure on her butt, lower back, but also thighs and legs in general, hence a much more relaxed ride. 

As I see it, ths is more important than any new seat, back support or anything,
We have ridden 10 years now with it and no comlains!
If you want a more fancy seat than origional, buy it!  But, buy a lowering kit for the foot pegs also;)

I use the Ultimate passenger pillion on my bikes, fit's the same as the factory pillion and can still open the saddlebags.
I also have the Rivco adjustable passenger floorboards and agree with Relax, wife says these are as important as the Ultimate pillion.

My wife also has FibroM and when we had the 1100 Spirit we swapped out to a Mustang Wide Tour. Amazing ride difference the next 5 yrs./30,000 mi. 3yrs. later, stock Valk seat w/o any issues whatsoever for both of us. So I asked my wife about this situation and she said the Valk pad is good but the Spirit hurt her from the rough suspension/ride though the Mustang was 200% better than any stock Shadow seat. They are two piece so you might find separate pieces for sale or have your stock pad reworked.

BTW Astech charges $125 per stock pad. This is 2yr. ago pricing.

Check out eBay item 351600723244.  Unfortunately it's sold as a set; you might email the guy and see if the pillion can be purchased separately.  I have the set with rider backrest (see seller's other items) on my Tourer, it's big, wide and very comfortable!

My vote is for the Ultimate pass seat....nice wide and comfy, better than Mustang from what I'm told.

 My wife suffered with the stock seat on my tourer so I bought her an ultimate and she is very happy with the seat and ride now. She liked it so much one day she said you need to get you one of these seats so before she changed her mind I order a new bigboy seat for me. I have over 190k on that seat now and it still rides grat.

O-B-1 I see you're in WA. If you are interested, ride up to Vancouver BC and you can borrow my Valk IS Ultimate seat. I can't remember which version, but you can borrow it for a month or so to try out with your co-pilot.

As long as I get it back at the Valhalla Rally in Port Angeles in one piece (OK, it's a 2 piece seat) I'll be happy.

Go with Mustang brand.  for the money you will be happy.  Looks are great too.  the OEM seats are a___ killers.
