Big Bike Parts Fog Lights 52-906

Hello Everyone -

Tonight I installed the Bike Bike Parts fog lights. Part # 52-906. I'm really pleased with the results - they're really bright and look nice. A couple things:

- The instructions are for a full Goldwing. The only part where this makes a difference is for the switch installation. 

- I watched this video which shows how to install a different brand of fog lights on a valkyrie. It was very helpful - especially when it comes to pulling off the cowl and the switch panel.

- the cowl was a pain in the neck to get back on. In addition to the fastners discussed on the video, I also removed two push pins on the plastic piece above the cowl. This helped tremendously getting the cowl back on. Just in case you haven't worked with this type of push pin, you push the center of the pin in, then pull the pin out from the base. To reinstall them, pull the center part out, insert them in the hole, then push the center part back in.  These are different from the pins that are  used on the cowl that are discussed in the video - these pins are literally just pulled out.

- I hate dealing with plastic and plastic fasteners (pins,clips, etc) I'm always worried that I'm going to over stress and crack the plastic panels and fasteners.

- when you pull off the side panel for the switch installation, the clips are only on the bottom of the panel, so apply force from the bottom.

- I installed the lights so they stay on when the high beams are on. To do this, you don't use the supplied harness, relay or jumper. Simply connect the switch to the plug inside the cluster of plugs on the bike. I had to talk to the support folks from BBP because the connection instructions don't make sense - you never need to use the jumper. It didn't need to be included with the lights.

I just installed a fog/driving light kit as well! That plastic fairing is not my favorite.

The added light is awesome, and it certainly looks unique from the front, making it quite the attention grabber. The more light to see and be seen with, the better!

They look nice, but they were too expensive for what you get.  I guess I am cheap, but I made my own LED running lights.  Total cost was about $40.

Thanks for posting but this has been talked about many time before. They are actually the So Cal lights in the video and the post is about Big Bike Parts light kit they are good lights but not the one in my post here or in the video.  

I guess the video has the install instructions thats why its being used.

After taking off the left panel, removing the knock out and securing the switch where the knockout was, you'll see an empty harness in the cluster of harnesses, wrapped in plastic. Take the wire coming from the new switch and plug it into the empty harness. I hope this helps.

Yup you did say it but sometimes all don't read the whole post just to clarify if anyone looked at the post, looked at the video and "assumed" operative word it was the same light.

So what your saying is to use the big bike lights and not the sol-cal ones,the big bike lights is a better kit. ?

So what your saying is to use the big bike lights and not the sol-cal ones,the big bike lights is a better kit. ?

No, not saying that. Sounds like the SoCal offers more with the running lights and blinkers (although I understand the blinkers at this point can't be used on the Valk).  Also, as the video shows, the SoCal lights are not 100% plug and play and require minor wire splicing, etc. for the running lights.   Not sure of the price difference.  An earlier post had the these (Big Bike Parts) for $199 which is a great deal - don't know what the SoCal lights go for.  These (Big Bike Parts) are very well made, fit nicely and are very bright.

The Big Bike Parts lights were the first to come out and did have some problems with the led burning out so they stopped production and kept promising they would be ready. But the ready date kept getting pushed back. They seem to have finally got the problem solved because I have not heard of any problems with burning out. They seemed very nice and bright also that was why I was going to get them.

I have and like the So Cal lights and was glad that I got my order switched from the Big Bike Parts lights. I don't mind the turn signal thing and some day will figure it out. Other than the turn signal there are no problems with the So Cal lights well made US company and they do design a lot of specialized led lighting.  Takes all of 20 minutes to mount either and and its really just plug and play. The wires from the running lights get connected to the accessory power under the seat. Its a matter of running the 2 wires from the front lights to the outlet under the seat and connecting them to go on with the key. Thats it, also not a big deal. With the So Cal you actually get 2 leds in one because not only do you get the driving lights but the running lights and the turn signal color change of the running lights. When the Big Bike parts came out they were the same price as the So Cal lights now it seems they have dropped the price which if true makes them a good value considering the So Cal lights I think are still at around 285.00

$199.00 delivered.  I expect the light kit will arrive before my bike does since it is on a slow truck from Washington. But at $9998.00 for a new 2014 it was worth the $450 to ship!

The switch was a direct plug-in to the oem harness, and fit in the left fairing blank perfectly.
I didn't use the extra harness as I wanted the fogs to stay on with high-beams on.

I just installed the Big Bike Parts kit on my bike last night and IT WAS A ROYAL PITA.

When I took the left light out of the bubble wrap (the very last thing I needed to do, of course, because I installed the right one first  ) the lens fell off straight into my hand.  I had to glue it back on to the body and even that took double gluing.  I'm going to call next week and see if they can replace a single lamp.

But the main thing was the left side power connector.  I couldn't find it, it wasn't there.  I looked.  I dug.  I completely removed the upper engine shield and dug around up there, too.  I spent 1/2 hour looking wherever and digging around the engine and couldn't find this supposed connector.

Finally, in utter frustration, I called up a wiring diagram from the internet and traced the harness.  I finally found the connector: some brilliant person and Ma Honda taped the connector back, quite firmly and solidly, BEHIND the horn.    Utterly invisible and completely hidden, I had to cut it out of the tape wrap in order to get access to it.

Yeah, and then we won't talk about Ma Honda's stupid design of the lower shroud, making it sit BEHIND the radiator shroud tabs along the upper-side rather than simply having the rad's shroud, which is removed far less often, be the "back" side of the panel stack 

Thank, Ma Honda, for making doing everything this bike like pulling teeth.  You wanted to make this bike so "perfect" that servicing it yourself is torture.

Sorry to hear about the lamp snafu, but the hidden power connector issue, along with the lower shroud absurdity has been discussed previously. You can do a fast site search or buy a factory manual when servicing your bike. At least you got it done! Enjoy.

Nice kit! Just as an aside, if the lights stay on with the high beam, you won't be able to use them for fog... High beam light is to high and bright for running in the fog. But, if you don't ever get in the fog, probably won't matter.

  Got her all done. Centerstand bolted on, Bigbike lights work and the Honda saddlebags bolted up. Thanks for all the info. to all on this forum. Made a nasty job turn into a fun job. Taking off the body parts are probably the worst part of it. Push and pull on plastic is scary. I'll post pics eventually.
