New Valkyrie Interstate owner needs a little advice

Hello! I'm Vance from Tampa Fl. Bought this 2000 Valkyrie Interstate with 59,000 miles. Seems to run great its got a little corrosion and rust.  The plan was to clean it up and sell it for a profit. Now I'm really considering the idea of selling the VTX1300 and keeping the Valk. Haven't been able to ride the Valk much at all due to needing a front tire it is badly dry rotted. Getting new tire this Saturday. I love my VTX. I have had it for 8 years now. Just put on 1 1/4" mini apes internally wired with steel braided lines. Maybe its time for a change of pace
What is your opinion??? Pro's vs Con's on each bike.
Would love to keep them both but one has to go. I cant keep them both.

Good looking bikes.  I rode Shadows before discovering this old flat six engine.  Just can't see ever going back to twins unless I someday have to get a lighter bike.  No replacement for smooth torque!

116000 + showin on mine and she STILL makes me grin every time I throw a leg over and crank her up.  Long as I've had her still TRYIN-without luck I might add-to figure out WHERE the weight goes when I put her in gear and ease out the clutch!    At my age-71-I like smooth way better than the shakes!  Take the Valkyrie out after the new tire install and hit some of yer favorite roads!    AND git that new tire scuffed in BEFORE you twist her tail! These Valkyries we ride grab yer attention QUICK!  RIDE SAFE.

If you decide to sell the Valkyrie you may want to determine the value of some of the chrome accessories and consider removing those to sell separately.

When I got my Valkyrie it had some rusty bits and pieces
on it like yours does. I liked it anyway, because it is a
great bike... the flat six, the good handling hiway or mountains,
the comfort... it cost me about a million dollars to change
out all the rusty parts, you'll have to decide.

Either way, ride it while you have it and see if  you become
addicted to Valkyries/flat-sixes....

While you say you can't keep both, you have two now.  So keep the Valk at least until you get it cleaned up to it's potential and in good running condition, and get to ride it enough to form an honest opinion as to which of them you like more.  Also, think about the type of riding you mostly do, and which bike serves that purpose best for you.  Finally, you should try to hookup with the big FL Valk crowd at some of it's many rides/lunches/hookups, and see some other (beautiful) Valks and kick tires with those guys.  Then decide.

I rode a Hog for 18yrs, then added a Kawi, a Yami, and then a Valk, and then another Valk.  Five was stupid, so I got rid of all but the two Valks.  I think everyone (who loves riding) needs two bikes; a dresser/tourer and a hot rod (fortunately, the Valk is both).

PS  That VTX is a nice looking machine, and shows a lot of work.

pocket aces, what more to add? The Valk will give you 100's K miles of nice riding, smooth motor (have you seen the nickel trick? youtube it).

Wait till you get more miles under the Valk. Keep cleaning it up and fixing the little things.

Ask yourself when your on the VTX, would I rather be riding the Valk? Ask yourself when you're on the Valk, would I rather be riding the VTX?

I'm partial to the IS, I really wanted the larger gas tank and the radio. Been caught in traffic jams getting out of the city too often, that ruined the ride, when it could have been avoided just by listening to the traffic report. I also don't like quite, those voices in my head start talking to me. 

Get on the Florida board and like already mentioned, meet up with some others.

I had five. For those that ask why, I told them they are like JELLO, you always have room for more. My wife would tell them that they are cheaper than another woman. LOL

Me too! I've had 1300 and 1800 "Xs" , however I've owned three Valkyries since. I love my "girls"! The only thing that can rival them a little is my new to me wing. The valks are staying!

Sell the VTX and keep the Valk. I sold the VTX1800 and now I have a 99 Valk IS (same colors of yours). The IS is staying put and is running strong.

My rationale is that you can buy a V-twin cruiser anytime from any manufacturer (Harley, Indian, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, etc) but there was only one true flat six cruiser ever made: the valkyrie.

I thought I recognized your handle, I am also on the VTXOA, don't get back on there much anymore but I still check in once in a while.

I had a VTX 1300 also and was always intrigued by the Valk so got an Interstate and kept both bikes because I did not know which one I liked better, two months went by and ended up selling my VTX.
Like you, I had just done a lot of mods to my X, including fatty beach bars with internal wiring   but they were both set up very alike with the fairing and bags so it made no sense to keep them both.



I am going to try and be impartial here, so ride both and time will tell you what you should do  

Like Jess suggested, I now have a hot rod Valk and a dresser Valk, the best of both worlds and happy with both of them 

BTW  Go on to the Florida Board, great group of guys and there are rides around the Brooksville area almost every weekend.
You also have "Grumpy" who works on Valks, lives in Tampa and is a wealth of knowledge on anything Valkyrie.

Come to jerrys cottage party Saturday April 30, you'll be blown away with a yard full of these fat girls. Pretty great bunch of Valk anthausiasts. And like flrider I have two and not planning on getting rid of any of them anytime soon. Hope that helps you decide

I got a 99 IS and the wife has a 07 VTX 1300. Much rather ride the Valk.

You have had your VTX for 8 years and it only has 21k. It is a 10 yr old bike. That is an average of 2100 miles a year. If you were doing that in a month or week the Valk would be the logical choice.

Your VTX doesn't look like your typical VTX. It has been loved a lot. Awesome looking bike.

You have a bit of a dilemma with either choice being a great one.

I would consider the following,

Kind of riding you do.
Length of rides you typically take 
Length of rides you expect to take in the future
(If planning on a 14 day, 8000 mile odyssey, the Valk would be #1)
Which bike fits you the best?

Take them both on a 300 mile trip. Which do find more comfortable at the end of the trip?
