Saddlebag project update

Tail light mod complete and I'm quite happy with the results. I'm sure I will get grief for how long this project is taking however the 1800 is not kept at home rather at a simple place we call the cottage, a place we haven't had the time to frequent lately hence the steps done when I can. The 1500 is at home for rides when we have the chance.

I will repost the pics of the bracket in the making and the final relocation spot. Now I can start on the mounting of the saddlebags next trip up.  Hey we do have to ride when we come up.   Anyway the saddlebags should hide the original holes when done or I will have to figure out some sort of plug, any ideas for a plug? Anyway sorry for the dig but the ride weather today in central Florida was perfect, started out at 57° and warmed up to 76°  Saddlebags project - To be continued.

They look nice, but are too expensive for me.

I am thinking of replacing mine with Tsukayu ABS Strong bags.  I was going to go with the fibreglass ones, but the ABS version is nice, and thick.  They should be just as strong, but cheaper. 

The ones I have now make the back end too wide.  I would like bags that don't stick out farther than my handlebars.  I have come close to smacking them on stuff a few times.

I like what you did with the relocation of the signal lights.  I may do the same thing if the new bags won't fit where the signal lights are now.   :cool dude:

Way to expensive for me too Brian, I was just very lucky to score them on eBad for $200. Honda made the mod a tad easier by giving a lot of extra wire and nice thin square connectors. One in light blue and one in orange so as to not connect them wrong. One thing not mentioned or easily seen is I used three metric "coupler" nuts between the bracket and the place where the reflector was before the mod. That way it brought it out or back more and made it so I could still use the OEM reflector and give me three solid points of connection to the bike.

I would actually love to get a set of Valkyrie bags, but every time I see some for sale the seller wants a fortune.  I am not willing to pay $7-800 for some used Valk bags when I can get new Tsukayu bags for $460 shipped right to my door, and they are already gloss black.  People with OE Honda bags think that they are made of gold or something.  If I could find a pair for $400 in good shape I would buy them.  I have also thought of getting some used HD bags as well.  Some of them are pretty nice, and they are actually not badly priced.  Especially, when you just buy one side at a time.  Although, I haven't seen anything to match Tsukayu in style, and price.

The Tsukayu look really nice from pictures I've seen. One mention to add in your search is look for Honda Shadow TOURER bags as they are the same as the 1500 Vlakyrie Tourer bags. Not every Valk rider knows this.  Note different from the Valkyrie Interstate bags in that the IS bags have no vertical seams and hinge different so that the entire lid comes off.  Hinges can be changed. 

I did see a really nice set Shadow Tourer Bags for under 500 once. 



You can see the seam in this picture. This seam is not on the Vakyrie Interstste bags.

I have installed the Tszukyu  strong bags on bike and have a couple thousand miles on them. Nice bags!
I will try to figure out how to put pics on here later today.

I am looking forward to the pics Dublflush.  I am now on the fence on whether to put on the Tsukayu bags or just bite the bullet and get the Corbins.  Corbin are 4x the price though of the Tsukayu, but look soooo freakin good.

And Corbins bolt right on to well made studly brackets that they supply, the brackets
become like OEM parts of the frame.

1500 bags or Champion bags will likely look awesome with the
turn signal mod, and could be better than Corbin because they
are bigger... we'll have to see what people come up with for
brackets to mount the 1500/Champion bags on...

will actually work. Clemson changes around URLs at will, soon myweb.clemson.edu
won't work either... I'm moving a bunch of my pictures over to google...

It is not immediately apparent (it wasn't to me) how to manipulate
sites.google.com to store your pictures for free in perfectly
structured directories with static names that you pick, but
now that I see how to do it, it is the easiest to manage and use
web space I know of - other than having shell access to the
unix host with the web directory on it, which is what I've
been used to up to now.

I was considering them when my wife told me to stop being cheap, and just buy the Corbin bags.  She prefers the Corbins over anything I have looked at.  S, now I just have to wait for our Canadian dollar to get better, or get lucky, and find a used set.  I found a link that said Value Accessories had them for $200 less than the Corbin site, but I guess that was changed.  They are the same price now.

So, if anyone sees a set of used Corbin bags, give me a shout.  I prefer black, but if the price is right I can paint them.

When it comes to Corbin I love their seats mostly for the ability to pretty much build it the way you like it. As for their luggage I do not always agree with the " you get what you pay for attitude".

I would put a set of Leatherlyke bags on long before I would even think about Corbin's . Bit that is just my opinion.
