Running rough on Sea Foam

Every fall when I prep the IS for the winter I fill her up with a full tank of fresh gas and a entire can of Sea Foam. I ride her for 25 miles or so to get the Sea Foam into the carbs. Every Spring she runs rough until I run the treated gas down and add fresh gas? Does anyone else have this problem?

Hey Ricky-D that is worth a shot. The nearest station I see is about 20 mi. away so I wouldn't use it every time.

That's a LOT of Seafoam. I use 1 ounce per gallon and, with my belly tank, that's 1/2 bottle (8 ounces). You're using more than 2 ounces per gallon (assuming stock tank), so it will smoke and run a little rough.

I also try to fill up at stations on the pure gas list, just because.

Yes I think I should back off on the amount of Sea Foam or try a different product?

I always use Seafoam and have never had an issue, however, no more than half a can. Even that is more than what is needed.

Seafoam is mostly Mineral oil.  if the ratio is too high then you will be trying to bur the oil and yes it will run rough.  Use a half a can or so instead.

I will cut back on the Sea Foam. As of today she is running smooth from start up  to shut down. You just can't beat these Beasts!

Used a recommended dose of Berryman B12 and Stabil with 91 fuel for the winter layup. The winter tank ran pretty smooth until it was time for fresh 87. Usually a little blah with Stabil and 87.

Are you sure it was Seafoam, and not one of the others? I don't think anyone has recommended Seafoam for anything but the winter lay over for years.

Also one reason I recommend adding to a half a tank of fuel. If you have problems, you just top up the fuel and dilute it more. Might still be a problem, but shouldn't be as bad.

If you live in an area where bikes are set up for the winter months, ride as far as necessary to fill your Valk with real gasoline the last two fill ups, the reccomended dose of Stabil marine formula, ride it enough to mix and fill the carbs. Given my propensity to overdo, I most likely would add some Berryman's although this would best to wait until the engine is restarted in the spring.

This past winter I didn't add anything to my gas. Before first start up I drained the tank and put it in the lawnmower and refilled with new gas with a can of lucas fuel system cleaner. Statred right up and ran great. Think I may do this every winter. Even with stabil it would run rough until I put fresh gas in.

So hv I.     I used at least a half can if not a full one for mine. She was fine when I started her for the 1st time yesterday.

Sea Foam is about the only "snake oil" I have used that actually does what it says it will do ..... luv the stuff!
I fill the tank with Shell premium (no ethanol) and I dump the whole can on and she always fires up and runs in the spring like she was rode yesterday!
Having said that. It's probably best to go by the instructions on the can for best results. Sometimes more is not better......

I started using the Sea Foam when I first bought the IS in 07. I was on a ride and she started bogging down trying to die. A friend suggested it sounded like moisture in the fuel system and try the Sea Foam. Well with a little luck and the Sea Foam every year I have never had to take the carbs apart.

No carb work here in 16 yrs, 100k miles.

I have used Sea Foam religiously for years, no issues.   

Simple:  you put too much Sea Foam in your tank, dilute with more (no Ethanol) fuel.  Done.

Up date: She is running strong now! I rode her into work last night. Fired her up to head home and she started to run rough leaving the parking lot? I reached down and turned the fuel back on! DUH!

happens to the best of us. i once started my bike at work, backed out of my spot and it died. i sat there for 5 minutes trying to figure out what happened. Then i turned the kill switch back on.

I do the same thing and it works good for me. One thing you could do is siphon the winter mixture out in the spring and empty it in the car. Now add fresh fuel to your cycle tank and after a few miles she will be purring for another season. FWIW
