I read here the advantages of a matt paint on the fuel tank against the sun beams. Never thought about it  but some time ago  I realized that the beams may be (a little bit) blinding. So I bought transparent matt Plasti Dip and I tried it yesterday


I'm not satisfied with the result, especially since I wanted to check if the paint was dry enough. Can you guess where I layed my finger ?

Get the sand paper out, scratch it up and shoot again.

I'm thinking of putting a decal over mine like I did the front and rear fender. The chrome does reflect a wee bit too much sun for my liking.

Should have gone with the blue/black, I've never noticed a glare from the black plastic. I always liked the blue but I test rode a black first and I did notice how bad the reflection suckered not just on the tank but the speedo too.

Just change it to the black one like Brian and I did, it's three bolts and a little money.

I use a small Goldwing fuel fill door pouch, covers much of the shine with little reflection. $25ish.

Here is the one I use, Hopnel on ebay, has a strap with Velcro, wraps around door, on and off in seconds. There are other choices but I know this one fits on the valk fuel door. If it is not enough coverage for you, you can still paint dull and still have a handy tank bag...

I am asking Scott to make me a tank bib that basically covers the chrome areas but snaps off to access the fuel door. You might want to contact him and jump in on the process!

@Jerry : I don't need to scratch anything, as it is Plasti Dip rubber paint, I just have to peel it off and try again, what I did today. 2 coats, I guess I need a third one

The same material that they use for wraps on cars can be used on the cover and can even match the color of the paint pretty close. You could even have your picture or something special as a wrap on the cover.
