Several people have asked about a Meet in The Middle ride for this year.

Smokin' Joe and I talked at Inzane and agreed that we could do it again this year.

For those who aren't familiar with the ride:

It will be on Labor Day weekend and involves riding along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

We will have a group riding from the northern end of the BRP and another group riding from the southern end of the BRP.

Smokin' Joe is handling the arrangements for the southern end and will post those details here once he has them worked out.

He is also working out the details for Saturday night.

I am handling the northern end.

The arrangements for Friday night 9/2/2016 are as follows:

We will stay at the Days Inn in Waynesboro, VA

The address is:

2060 Rosser Ave
Waynesboro, VA 22980

The phone # is:

540 943 1101

The rate is $74.99 plus tax

We have 10 rooms held until Aug 2, 2016

After this date neither the rooms or the rate are guaranteed.

When you call the Hotel be sure to tell them that you are with the:  VRCC Ride  in order to get the discounted rate.

This ride is a lot of fun and the tire kickin' and lie tellin' on Sat night is a blast!

Sounds Great!

Deb was especially disappointed that you guys weren't at Izane.

My plan is spend Sunday riding the BRP to Maggie Valley and then heading home on Monday.

I thought that I might try out the place that you recommended.

Yeah, unfortunately Inzane was again not in the cards this year.
Give us a call and we will see what we can do about Maggie, and I sure hope the hotel is still as nice as last year.
Looking forward to sharing the wind again.

Jess, NOT Maggie Valley, that is where Mark, Deb and we are possibly heading after MITM.

This looks like an awesome ride,  I am in Canada but would love to join this if I can.
Where is the "Middle" stop?  Where is the southern group starting from?

The Southern group starts near Cherokee NC, at the "end" of the parkway.

The middle has been near West Jefferson NC and Sparta NC.

Of course you are welcome to join the ride (you may be the first Canadian we've had  ).

I would suggest that you plan on meeting up with the northern group on Fri 9/2 in Waynesboro, VA and riding south with us on Sat.

Smokin' Joe will work out the details for the southern end once he's back from his tour of the New England states.

The two groups will meet up for tire kickin' and lie tellin' on Saturday 9/3. Most likely that will be in Sparta, NC. (This isn't set though until Joe gets back).

The exact location of Saturday nights pow wow will depend on hotel availability, rates, etc.

The same applies to the starting location for the southern group as well.

I am sure that Joe will post those details as soon as they are available.

I can't make any promises about the rain.

But our track record has been pretty good.

I'll have to wait and see as time gets closer to the date. Been off three weeks and had 23 missed calls from work they want to work me like a Hebrew slave. Got back Friday evening from the land of potholes in the north. As it gets closer if I can't handle the southern end I'll let someone else step-up and take my place. Hopefully I'll be able to get it done.

I've seen alot of people that thought they were cool , but then again Lord I've seen alot of fools.

Joe is really busy with work so to help him out I have made the arrangements for Saturday night.

We will be using the Alleghany Inn in Sparta, NC (this is the same place we used last year).

They have set aside 20 rooms for us and will add more if needed.

The rate is $67.95 plus tax.

When I spoke with the manager he indicated that it would be better for people to books their rooms online.

But , you can still call if you just don't want to do it online.

To get the group rate you must use the code:  Meet16

The website for Alleghany Inn is:    http://www.alleghanyinn.com

Their contact info is:

Alleghany Inn
341 North Main Street
Sparta, NC 28675
336 372 2501

Group Code: Meet16

John the manager encouraged me to ask ANYONE that is even "Thinking" about coming to go ahead and make their reservations. This will ensure that you have a room and you may cancel within 24 hrs of your stay without penalty.

I would also encourage those that are planning to stay in Waynesboro, VA on Friday night to do the same.

Additionally, the Sparta area has some very good riding.

If anyone would like to spend an extra night or two in Sparta, I'm sure that you can get the group rate for each night.

Question;
My friend from England is coming here October 17 for a ride. The BRP is the first choice.

Is this to late for the northern part of the ride?

No.  But temps will be cooler, esp at night and mornings, and also at elevations (especially Skyline Drive can be 10-20 degrees cooler than the flat) (BRP is lower, mostly, and you're always heading south) .  And it gets rainier in fall than summer.  There should not be any freezing water crossing the road (running down the hills) in the shade of mountains in Oct, but that can happen.

Gear up and watch the weatherman.

It worked for right after they set it up.

You may need to give them a call.
