Once I accepted that my football (soccer) playing days were done, I decided that new parts were needed to enjoy my last passion, riding. On 12/2, I'm getting a new right hip and will be out of commission for 2-3 months, maybe more. I'm very confident that the results will be positive, but in the back of my mind is the fact that my father died of sepsis shortly after his hip replacement. Ride safe my friends and enjoy every minute.

You hid the pain very well George. I didn't even realize it was giving you trouble. They have come a long ways with that sort of thing. Hope to be riding with you in 2-3 months. 

This doesn't mean you are going to grow your hair long and buy a bong ?

I know you'll do well George because your in good shape and healthy. I have heard that hips are easier then knees to recover from. You'll be back on you bike in no time. Just be sure to follow the instructions of the doctor and physical therapist. Keep us informed of you progress as well.

If it makes you feel any better, I had my right hip replaced on February 28, 2016 at OASIS in Phoenix. I was back on my bike 8 weeks later. For the record, I am 61. It is a breeze if you follow the physical therapy as BigMac advises. If you haven't already chosen a hospital I would strongly recommend OASIS, I actually hated to leave there, the food was so cursed good and the staff was fantastic. I had the posterior approach. Good luck, and do let us know how it goes, lemme know when you get the bong...

I got the call earlier today that my surgery is scheduled for 9:45am tomorrow. Thanks again for all the good wishes, I'll post as soon as I can after the surgery........or not. Sorry, gallows humor.

The operation was a success, although they've been poking an prodding me since since 2:30 this morning. I walked about 480 feet yesterday and my physical therapist will be in shortly for round 2. With any luck, I should be released later today.

Sounds like you are doing great! Did you have the anterior approach or posterior ? And do take the pain meds, I tried to get off of them too soon and it was a big mistake. Therapy, therapy and more therapy.....

It was the anterior approach with a robotic arm that they fixed to my left hip. Sleeping a lot, but at my age that's about all I do anyway.

Feeling pretty peppy now that they cut me loose from chemotherapy. Not clear on my status as the doc just said comeback in 3 month for a blood workup. A little clarification would be nice, tho. BTW, I hope our British friend is healing up nicely!

That's good to hear. I'm sure it must be nice to be off the chemo. I too was wondering about our British friend. I think he's out searching for that tie dye shirt.

The last couple of days have been full of surprises and eye openers. First, my recovery is going extremely well. I walked a mile yesterday, no walker and carrying the cane in my hand in case I needed it to step off a sidwalk. The result was that my muscles hurt like hell all afternoon until I took a non-opioid to help me sleep at night. I also got on an off the Valk, Spyder and climbed into and down from the truck.

I did my second round of therapy today and was almost able (with some persuasion from the therapist) to cross my right leg over my left knee. I haven't come close to doing that in years, so to say that I'm happy would be an understatement. If I can escape the overseers for a few minutes tomorrow, I may try to ride the Spyder. Ride safe, my friends.
