Saddlebag scuff guards

I got the saddlebag scuff covers I bought from Germany.  There are no pics or instructions I'm the box.  Does any one have some on their valkyrie that you can send me to show proper placement.  I will only get one shot to put them on and don't want to look dorky.  My email is Doniholcomb@gmail.com thanks in advance.

One of mine came with them, the other didn't.

I have no schematic.

But, they sort of wrap around the outside edge just a little bit (so I think there may be a bit of curve in one edge.

So first I'd put them up on the bags with the adhesive cover still on and fiddle around for best fit and look, measure up from bottom and/or down from top, stick a little painters or masking tape at the mount points.  Then just do your best to get the other side in the same position.

If one side is a bit higher than the other, you'll probably be the only one who ever knows.

It's hard to find good pics of them (see how they wrap a bit around the outside edge?).





Clearly, the red bike has them lower than the green bike.  And I would err in taller rather than lower.  BTW, the red bike bag guards are NOT OEs (or OE copies).

If you ask, I will go out tomorrow and measure how far down from the lower saddlebag top edge they are on my bike (not counting the lids).  I know that most of the Honda extras that came on my interstate were installed by a dealer (way back when they knew what a 1500 Valk was).

The back of the brochure with just about every OEM accessory you could get on a I/S.  Altough I just noticed they didn't put the chrome passenger footpeg bracket on.

Hook, I realize this is the Honda book but it must be that the person who put these on before this photo shoot had to have them on way too low.   When they are that low there's a good portion that doesn't even stick to the bag. Someone had mentioned on the board that mine looked way too low, after investigating I found out they were correct, that's why I went through all the trouble to fix it and contacted many people in my local group and found the correct placement.

Google Valkyrie interstate and find picture after picture and they start just under the natural paint split line on two tone ones.   Way higher.   The ones I measured were 1.5" from the bag lip not including the top of the saddlebag.  I wondered why mine did not fit right it's because they were way too low. I went through a lot of grief to get them off cleaned up and on at the correct place.  Glad that some on the board pointed out that mine were not on correct. Now the fit is perfect now I have the correct placement.

I didn't compare what the picture shows and what I have on my tourer. Just assumed the catalog was correct.  I'll check it out later.

I would look where most of the scuffs in your paint currently are, and take that into consideration when deciding how high to place them... but I don't have them and haven't installed them, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Jerry, you're correct, the scuff covers in the brochure appear to be mounted too low as compared to mine.  I remember your post about this and was confident we came to the correct solution then.
In this post link, the picture I posted has been deleted from Photostash, so it's not there, but Smoking Joe has two pics of his nice bikes with the scuff guards looking correctly mounted.
