Noise from driver backrest

Ok...This just started and is a little annoying...On my 99CT, I have a Ultimate Lowboy seat with backrest...The Backrest lately has been making a loud click every once in awhile when I am going through the gears...I can make it click also by pressing back on the backrest hard...Is it wearing out...??? Can I make an adjustment...??? Don't want to spend for a new Backrest or Seat...Anybody have a similar problem...??? Just wondering if I can fix this myself...!!! Thanks for all the knowledge on this site...!!!

My dads does the same thing.i dont think he has addressed the issue as of yet. I think it has somethimg to do with the slot that the back rest slides into. Maybe a silicone based lube might help. Also there is a allen head bolt on the umder side of the seat that holds that slot in place that might need some tightening.  Just a thought.

Mine squeaks.  I shot some lube in there without much improvement. I wrapped the post in electrical tape (tightly) and shoved it down in there.  No more squeaks.

Six months later, I had to work really hard to get it out, the tape had kind of melted and made a mess.  I think some of the tape may still be down there.  I still get the occasional squeak, but no more tape for me.

Sometimes my seat bumpers squeak too.  I put a drop of oil under them and it stops, for awhile.

Trying to remember.  I had a noise coming from the rear area of my Ultimate.  I sent Des an e-mail and I believe it was the mounting piece that's welded on the fender by Honda, that was doing it.  You might have the same issue.  I think some tape on the hook under the seat fixed it.

That would probably work, for a while.  I think electricians tape would last longer.  That Plastidip isn't very tuff.   Just don't use the whole roll like Jess did.

Single thickness, stretched tight.  Still had to almost use a chain fall to get it out.

There's not much room for more than the post, be careful.

My backrest is Mustang, switched back and forth between a Lowboy and Bigboy.  Much better fit for my back than the Ultimate backrest.  But it's the identical post.  If it never had to come out again, I might try something different. 

I'm going to have to investigate this bolt under the seat.  That's news to me.

Had a friend that had the same issue with his ultimate backrest, it turned out that the seat pan had several cracks around the area that supported the backrest. I believe Ultimate replaced the pan for free.
