Gave up trying to get a decent paint job on the rear fender. It looks "OK" but not real good, but after repainting it four times I said screw it and put it back on the bike. Maybe some modest pin striping in the area in question will make it more presentable. As for the speedo, recall it was registering about 124mph while going down the street at 25-30 max. Ordered a Speedohealer and just finished installing it this afternoon. Had to make a jumper to go between the front wheel pickup(off and I/S) and the speedo. By doing so I was able to use the existing 3 pin connectors, cut some matching color wires from a spare main harness I bought for that purpose, and using some of the hundreds of male/female pins I have I made the jumper about 2" long. Also had to furnish a new 3 pin using both the male/female halves. First tried to use the power supplied by the new speedo but it only registered about 6vdc, so cut that wire and added a brown/black from a 12vdc source that only comes on with the key. I guessed at the correction needed, used 124mph indicated with a 27mph actual(guesstimated speed), came up with a -78.2% correction which I entered in the Healer. After moving Rita back into the house(doesn't like the smell), I fired it up and took off down the street. Moving at a decent clip it registered as high as 32mph down to 15mph as I coasted into the driveway. In the next day or two I'll strap my GPS on the bars and get an actual speed so I can dial it in accurately, plan to make it 2-3 mph high. Sucker is quick on the throttle, the only thing holding the seat on right now is pucker power.  ;)  Still have to do the side covers and do something with the seat. Not sure I like the handlebars, off a Std. Valk, but since I plan to sell it I'm not going to make a change now. Let the next guy mess with it if he doesn't like them.

Not yet Bert, want to paint the sidecovers first....then maybe. Today we had a visitor(lady) stay with Rita a couple hours so I was able to dial in the speedo using the new SpeedHealer. I zeroed out any previous entries in it, went around the block with a GPS taped to the bars. Showed 100mph at 8.8mph on the GPS. Bumped up the speed....same spread so back to the shop and put the numbers in the Healer app on the cell phone. Came up with a -91.2% correction, punched that into the Healer and around the block again. BINGO....20mph on the speedo showed 20 on the GPS, a bit faster....40 on the speedo showed 40 on the GPS. Wanted to set it to read 2-3 mph high but think I'll leave well enough alone...for now anyway.

Think I might be looking at having to pull the front engine cover off. I have a slight oil leak/drip but the water pump is new so might be a bad o-ring. Not a hard job, just a PITA involving a lot of bending on my part cuz it's down low....and I don't bend that easy anymore.  >:(

Glad to hear your getting a little shop time again John. Sounds like you nailed the speedmeter situation. I hope your side cover paint goes well.

Went out to prep the side covers this evening and was looking at the rear fender when I realized I had a problem. The back end of the frame isn't cut back far enough so when I was taking the bike out to nail down the speedo, by fat ass apparently was heavy enough to cause the fender to hit the end of the frame. I have the fender mounted to move up/down with the swingarm and now have two nice large chips in the finish just below that area. @*%#$@*&^  Well, at least the new tires look nice.  :tickedoff:

Definitely debating about taking the fender and side covers to a shop and have them do it for me, maybe I could get them to add some silver in the finish to compliment the tank. Looks like I have to cut off the end of the frame another couple inches.....or lose weight!  Naw, easier to cut off the frame.  ;D
