Odd sound in first few miles

The last two times I took the beast out, a new noise has appeared. I warm her up, we take off, and after about hafabout half a mile, a repetitve freaking noise comes from the lower front end of the engine area. It sounds like plastic rubbing against plastic. It lasts for a minute or two and seems to have no connection to the engine speed, wheel rotation or braking.
   The only thing I've done just before it began, was do an oil change with an M1 filter. Any ideas? I haven't been able to pinpoint the location, as it stops abruptly, quickly, and doesn't return. Thanks. Mike in NY

Some oil filters have a valve to stop the oil from draining back and causing a "dry start". Change the oil filter or use the old one drained of most of the old oil. I had one that sounded like a marble inside or something inside.

Which Valkyrie do you ride, Interstate, standard? If you could provide a little more information to go on that would help. And are you sure the noise stops or could it be possible that engine or wind noise drowns it out?

If this is a STD or Tourer, it could be the speedometer cable. Not too hard to lubricate it with the right type of lube.
