The Dakar is going on now down in South America and is as exciting and full of surprises as always.

Toby Price is in third overall, last I looked.

Honda is doing good with a second overall.

Been watching each day's recording. Stage 10 tonight. Man, these guys are tough. Some brutal high speed get offs. Also some unfortunate navigation mistakes cost Price big time today. It really is too bad this event isn't promoted better here. It's a grueling race indeed.

I can't imagine how fatiguing riding the bikes and quads must be. Basically standing,  jumping, getting stuck and pushing all day.  They must think the guys in the side by sides, cars and trucks have it easy sitting all day.

I can't imagine how fatiguing riding the bikes and quads must be. Basically standing,  jumping, getting stuck and pushing all day.  They must think the guys in the side by sides, cars and trucks have it easy sitting all day.

Yeah, no kidding.   When I was much younger I could ride pretty good off-road. But nothing even frigging close to what these guys do. Some of those crashes would do me in. These guys come to, get back up, get on the bike and do another grueling 300 miles.  
Actually the credit needs to go to Hook. Bill turned me back on to the Dakar a year or two ago. I had not seen anything about it for years. I didn't even realize they didn't still go from Paris to Dakar anymore.

I tried riding like that when I was a stupid kid, about the only thing I managed to emulate were the crashes, went over the handle bars a couple time then decided to stick to roads.

I got interested in the Dakar Rally years ago when it was in Europe &  Africa  traveling through Gibraltar.

Due to the unstable political climate in Africa, the race was moved to south America .

Today's racing in South America seems to be much harder and more technical,  but that could be due to the much better TV coverage.

Lots of excitement and drama  and the weather in South America seems to create more problems for the  participants .
