As most know, I'm not a big fan of our President. But today he did something that I feel compelled to call out. He brought in victims from Columbine, Sandy Hook, and Parkland and let them have their say. It was very compelling and powerful. Kudos to Trump for letting them speak their mind. I don't know if it will lead to anything, but it was a good thing he did.  :cooldude:

Hopefully something good comes from it. God knows we all could use some good news.

I truly believe that Pres. Trump is much more fair minded than the MSM gives him credit for.

The comments of one father who lost his daughter were spot on:

Quote Andrew Pollack, the father of 18-year-old Meadow Pollack who died in last week's shooting - and who had previously made comments supportive of Trump online - stood up with his sons and delivered an impassioned speech about the need to strengthen school safety.

"All these school shootings, it doesn't make sense. Fix it!" Pollack said. "... We should have fixed it! And I'm pissed. Because my daughter... She's not here. She's not here. She's in Fort Lauderdale King David cemetery, that is where I go to see my kid now."

Pollack added, "It is not about gun laws. That is another fight, another battle. Let's fix the schools and then you guys can battle it out whatever you want. But we need our children safe."

Why don't we look at how Isreal protects their schools. I recently retired as a school bus driver in Scottsdale, AZ. We got contracted to drive for private schools too. The local Jewish academy hired us, so I went there to pick up a class. I entered through 2 sets of double doors. About 100' down a straight hallway was a wide podium with 2 large men standing behind it. They looked like ex military to me. The podium was wide enough to house weapons of any sort they might need. I had to deliver paperwork but I was not allowed to enter. They called the recipient as I left. It's called school security.

I keep seeing posts on Facebook where everybody is calling Trump a giant piece of crap who won't do anything. The way I see it, Trump is the only president in recent history who, pardon my French, gets crap done. You may not like it, or how he does it, but crap happens when he puts his mind to it.

Murder is illegal, and no further laws will make it more illegal. Restricting access to firearms will result in fewer people who weren't going to commit a crime getting one. Those who choose to kill will get whatever tool needed to do so.

I don't like that we need to have armed guards in schools, but, we need to have armed guards in schools. That's the cold hard truth in the world we now live in. I would gladly be that guard in the elementary school in my district.

Rob, am I seeing cracks in the ice block? :o

(Actually, you seem to have a more open mind than most liberals)

I'm hoping that in time, more people that feel as you do about our president, will see his attempt to do right and realize they don't have to like him, but can still support his policies and agendas.

I believe he is doing what he feels is right for America.

Probably not. But, I felt to be true to my beliefs I needed to point out that he did a good thing. There are some things I agree with him on. Having those kids and parents in and let them speak their mind took courage on his part.  :cooldude:

I tuned in late so I missed most of it. The father of a girl killed last week said we need to stop putting politics ahead of safety. Fix it he says. I agree but banning guns isn't going to fix it. Putting armed guards or trained armed teachers, administration in schools could stop this or at least keep person distracted until police can get there. Another person said you are not going to stop a suicidal maniac from going in and killing because they don't care if they die. I disagree, you shoot this individual in the freeking head, they die, the threat is over. PERIOD.

In my opinion since this last shooter didn't kill himself the prosecutor should reject the plea and go to trial and when convicted take him to death row. Put him in "old sparky' and throw the switch. That would be justice, again in my opinion...

I understand that Trump is being ridiculed for having "notes" with him during the meeting with the kids and family members. If that doesn't show the true agenda of our media nothing ever will.

I think Trump is sincere in his words and I don't believe this was a photo op. I hope some things come out of all this that can really affect the ability of mentally ill people to get their hands on a weapon and when they do that they will find it nearly impossible to enter soft targets an take lives.

Shooting Survivor: CNN Gave Me "Scripted Question" After Denying Question About Armed Guards

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2018/02/22/shooting_survivor_colton_haab_cnn_gave_me_scripted_question_after_denying_question_about_armed_guards.html

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Colton Haab said he was approached by CNN to ask a question at Wednesday night's town hall but decided not to after the network gave him a "scripted question," quashing one he wrote himself. Haab, a member of the Junior ROTC shielded students while the school was under attack from the shooter, said he was going to ask about using veterans as armed security guards.

the flaw in that is somebody could be perfectly normal gun owner and then 20 yrs later becomes mentally ill, and look at the definitions they use for mental illness. stress of life can cause some one to talk to a doctor prescribe something etc. yr later person is fine stresses in life go away. they call that mental illness. yet they want laws to confiscate that persons guns or deny ownership? NJ actually does this prevents ownership, need to get a lawyer to fight them.  arm guards and army the general populace per the 2nd is the only answer.

Missed the point?  Didn't read the article?

How much of what Trump did was "good", versus "did what was expected" or even worse "did what his advisors told him to do", because while he was doing his "good" deed he had to remember to read from his script??

I don't know about you, but I find it helpful to have notes to remind me to say what I really want to say.  This is especially true in an environment where there could be distractions and interruptions and no time to stand there with my finger on my temple trying to remember that really important thing I wanted to say.  Those notes are a sign of proper preparation, and to take them as a sign of insincerity is disingenuous.

It seems to be that Trump is his own worst enemy: for every step he does / can take forward, he stumbles 2 backward.  Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law, has a position of power in Trump's administration but has failed to acquire a security clearance.  The situation is so bad, so scandalous and in violation of anti-nepotism laws, that the White House Chief of Staff, John Kelly, has just issued a 5 page memo stating that anyone who has failed to acquire their security clearance since June will no longer have access to secure information (read: lock Kushner out).

Trump has 2 women outright declaring out-of wedlock sexual relations (which only bothers us when a liberal does it), and several other women declaring sexual harassment.

Trump hasn't filled necessary, and required by his job, posts, including several ambassadorships such as Turkey and South Korea (!).

Etc, etc, etc.

So when he tries, or does, something good, his [massive] mistakes keep following him.  He may be able to fix a lot, but he's leaving a lot broken and doesn't seem to be in much of a rush to repair what he doesn't think is important - to himself, or to those who aren't seeming to pay attention.

Venezuela is exactly what u vote for to happen. to bad u and your ilk do not understand that. so move to venezuela, 80% vote like u do. Move.

Surely somewhere between the opposite ends of the political spectrum enough people will be able to come up with some positive moves that will create a safer environment for the kids. Hopefully all the poo-poo over Trump having notes in his hand won't overshadow the reason for the meeting.

More importantly than his notes, what is the "45" on his cuff for?

I don't know about you, but I find it helpful to have notes to remind me to say what I really want to say.  This is especially true in an environment where there could be distractions and interruptions and no time to stand there with my finger on my temple trying to remember that really important thing I wanted to say.  Those notes are a sign of proper preparation, and to take them as a sign of insincerity is disingenuous.

No kidding.

I've been using notes to self all my life.  Sit in college for 9 years, notes.  Try a legal case without notes...... fail.  I have notes all over the place today, reminding me to do things I don't want to do.

My memory is still pretty good, but without notes, life would be chaos.

For instance,  I can still name my 1st through 6th grade teachers, can you?
