Now, I may have to buy a Tesla instead:

Yesterday, I'm sitting at a red light when a super sharp Vette pulls up.

I noticed the orange car pull up beside the Vette but didn't pay much attention to it as I was checking out the Vette.

When the light turned green the Vette took off.

The driver was getting down on it hard and it was sounding really good.

Suddenly, I noticed that the orange car had caught the Vette, passed it and was walking away.

After, recovering from the initial shock I had to know what kind of car the orange one was.

I caught up with them at the next light a could see that the orange car was a Tesla.

I had no idea that they were that fast!

This lives in my garage currently:

And I would MUCH rather have a Tesla with the Ludicrous Mode enabled!!! (Or even the older, slower Insane Mode)

Nice car (and yes I'm jealous)!  cooldude

Watching the videos it looks like the Vette is still faster overall in the quarter but in the 1/8 the Tesla will win everytime.

Full disclosure, the Vette isn't mine, it's my father in law's, but he parks it in my garage since he's traveling out of country and it's hail season here in The Republic... Smiley (Best of both worlds, I get the keys but not the payments! Down side - It's an automatic Sad )

And in the quarter mile, even against a Z06, the Tesla will still hold it's own... Half mile the Vette might take it...

first thing i would do is quit my job, then move to country with lots of storage and land.

tesla or corvette probably not but that tesla would probably be easier to get in and out of than any Vette?  Only been in a corvette once and was very hard to get into and out sitting way too low to the ground for my liking.  Plus in WI cannot drive it year round much like a cycle.

I suppose being a lottery winner, initial cost and overall cost during the life of the vehicle wouldn't matter to most lottery winners but, when you do the math, it will take much longer for that Tesla to pay for itself or equal the long term cost of the vette.

You can buy a lot of gas for that vette or even more with a more fuel efficient vehicle before that Tesla ever over comes it's initial cost.

I don't really want either one but, a Tesla would not be high on my list.    The initial cost to purchase is way too high to make them a good investment IMHO.

Just curious as to where these races occur?   Electric motors have a lot of torque (that's why locomotives use them) but the Tesla's initial cost far outweighs it's usefulness IMHO.    If a Tesla is what you want, go for it.    The Tesla is quick off of the line admittedly but drag racing isn't much of a driver's race, it's more of a designer's or mechanic's race.

I still maintain I can buy a boatload of fuel with the difference in the two vehicles cost.   Buy a cheaper more fuel efficient vehicle than a Vette and the difference is even more significant.

In terms of resale, maybe but it was an investment.  Just depends on how you want to look at it.

Did they happen to travel further than the quarter mile of the race?
Or, did the Tesla run low on battery power and had to recharge?
I'm not knocking Tesla really.     But that was just a stunt to show it's torque.     How far did the Tesla pull that trailer and the vehicle?    Not far would be my guess.   The technology has not progressed that far.

You can go as much as 100-150,000 miles before you need battery replacements. Currently @ $45,000...plus your old cores of course. You could easily drive your 'vette 300-400,000 miles on gasoline for that.

I found this one, they had a Tesla Model X drag racing (On a drag strip) an Alfa Romeo 4C super car, while towing a trailer with another Alfa Romeo 4C on it. Race is at about the 4 minute mark:

As far as the cost to buy and cost of ownership, someone buying a Corvette or Tesla P90, X, P100D, etc, they're not doing it based on a cost/benefit analysis... Smiley

I'm not a big Vette or Tesla fan. But I would take the Vette, as long as it was 1971 or older, preferably 63 or 65.

Had a friend many years ago that had this audio clip set up on a loop, and would play it really REALLY loud on his Gold Wing whenever he was whooping up on Harleys or other "Loud Pipes Save Lives" types...
