Looks like the Republicans have learned nothing from the Democrats.  If you don't want to provide info on something, you don't start rationalizing reasons why not, you demonize the people asking the question - give them a demeaning name,  like 'Taxers' or something to marginalize them and start chuckling when the questions come up and treat them like UFOlogists.

You should never have access to anyone's taxes. President or not. Why is it so important to you liberals? It really means nothing. If he is forced to show his taxes I want Hillary's and all other elected officials taxes also. Especially Hillary's.
Ask and ye shall recieve. (Britman posted a link for you)  coolsmiley

ALL should be forced to release their extremely private information?

https://www.politico.com/blogs/on-congress/2012/07/pelosi-grilled-for-not-releasing-her-own-tax-returns-129468

(Old article, but it seems Pelosi still hasn't released hers.)

What'd good for the goose is good for the gander, even if it's poisonous to both.

Private information should remain private. This is all another move towards life long professional politicians, and away from how this republic was founded, with real working people taking time from their real lives to serve for a term, then go back to reality.

Having a permanent full time political class needs to be discouraged, not further encouraged by making it even more difficult for a private citizen who's actually done real work going into politics to server a term or two and then going back to the real world.

Heheheh, I like that idea, but need to come up with something spiffier for the conspiracy theorists... And tie in their Russian insanity as well...

I know! We can call them налогообложение, the Russian word for Taxation.

Looks even better when transliterated into our alphabet: nalogooblozheniye

Those crazy nalogooblozheniyeenies are at it again!

Another corollary to this issue that's been bouncing around my noggin. I was raised that asking someone how much money that made was only slightly less offensive than to ask if you could take their spouse for an overnight test drive.

Is that just a southern thing, or a Texas thing and not universal? I always though that was pretty universal, but maybe I was wrong on that?

facts are facts. how many know that they become very rich with insider trading, that they pass laws to enrich themselves, etc.  they put martha in jail for alleged insider trading.

Ron, the previous election has been debated here innumerable times. We are past that. It’s about whether Trump or his campaign conspired with the Russians. It’s about if Trump is violating the emoluments clause. It’s about whether Trump has hurt the American people by helping the Russians. Whether you felt Trump was the better choice than Clinton is ilrelevant at this point. She is gone, never to return.

I didn't respond to this previously but a thought has been bugging me.

Does anyone really believe the previous election and how it played out has nothing to do with this?
The distrust and ill feelings/hate have been building since Slick Willy was elected and getting more intense with each election cycle.

I agree with Willow's statement, there is a lot of hate on both sides of the aisle.

Russia Russia Russia...how about Hillary and Uranium One...That ain't tax evasion, it is treasonous collusion with Russia. Why is the Clinton "Slush Fundation" ignored by CNN. I know why...they are too busy hanging around Roger Stone's place waiting for the Military Level Arrest by the FBI, of a 66 year old unarmed self promoting huckster.
BTW...who here does not take full advantage of all their legally mandated deductions...only fools IMHO.
How about all the bad actors in the FBI, CIA and the DOJ involved in Crafting the Phony Dossier with the aid of Foreign Bad Actors, and then using it to illegally obtain three separate FISA Court Warrants to spy on the Trump Campaign, Spying during the time leading up to his inauguration, and ultimately the resulting Mueller "Inquisition" for the last two years???

I was raised similarly. Maybe it's because I was born in Texas, but I doubt that. I think that is a pretty universal statement in our complete society. But what I think you are missing is the distinction between friends and acquaintances vs. someone who has power over our daily lives and the defense of our country.

Why would anyone give out their tax returns to the likes of Maxine, or booker, or Kamila, and the whole democratic party, when they are not only your enemy but cannot stand on the Constitution nor have the sense to understand those documents. The very same people who are launching investigations into every area of your life.  uglystupid2 uglystupid2 uglystupid2 uglystupid2 uglystupid2

Why would you give your returns to the likes of all that have stated that they are out to impeach you?  Anyone would have to be brain dead to give anything out that could in any way shape or form be used against you. Especially to the likes of Maxine Waters, an outspoken critic of President Trump, who leads the House Financial Services Committee.

Al Capone was NOT charged for all his crimes, he was charged with tax evasion. A statement made to the government on a form and found to be in error was his downfall, NOT all the crimes.

Obama sealed so many of his records including returns and how he became a US citizen, if those that are arguing for the release of Trumps records would be on board with Obama opening his life up to these same type of investigations then I'm all for it.

I tell you what since Meat and Baldo are all for this how about you guys get out the past three years returns and post them here along with all backup documentation. This would be a great start to show your intent and support for the resolution. It would put real movement and commitment to your position also so you could be taken seriously

This one act would show that you are serious and concerned and shows a level of commitment that says not just for Trump but for me also. Just think how powerful that would be a true no holes bared position to put your money where your mouth is.

Since Meat has stated he would not mind releasing his returns I think it appropriate to start the ball rolling, even though not running for office lets see how this works out.

If any of you guys also find this a good idea please endorse it..  cooldude cooldude

I haven’t finished this years yet, waiting on another document. But I thought since Robert was so interested, I would post last years. I didn’t want to take the time to figure how to scan it. I think you can zoom in on the pic. There isn’t really much to it these days, since our kids are grown and our house is paid off. I’m sure many of you make more money they we do, be gentle with the insults.  Wink

My family is from border state WVa.  My dad the mathematician extraordinaire told me at a young age to never ask what someone made (or was worth) (it was bad manners, and low class).  And with equal vigor told me to never tell what I made (which was hardly more than dirt).  He said there was business and there was friends and family, and I would do well to never mix the two.  Never sell your old car to a friend, if you want to keep that friend.

When we went to find my first car, he told me to keep my thoughts to myself, and never show excitement or desire to a salesman.  When we found the old VW I wanted badly, he made me shut up and walk away with a poker face, and drive off without it (much to my unhappiness), but when we went back two days later, the price had miraculously come down a whole $200.

He then told me to go to the bank and get a 90-day note, and not a loan, as the interest on the note was about $23.  That was my first ever loan (for $600 at 17).  They made my dad cosign (which my dad made clear meant the car was his until paid).  And I went in short of 90 days, and paid it off (out of my Mobil gas station $1.50 an hour job).

When I sold my first 650 BSA (to get a dirt bike), the buyer unhappily called three days later and said the clutch failed and needed replaced.  He wanted me to pay the $100 to fix it.  I told my dad I should not be on the hook for this, it was just bad luck (or his crappy riding).  My dad told me to pay half the cost of this repair, it was the right thing to do.  So I did, and the new owner was very happy with half, and I did not make an enemy (and I slept better).

Dad taught me about frugality and saving; growing up, we had the same furniture forever.  When it got old, mom made slipcovers on her sewing machine.  When we needed a new piece here or there, mom went to St Vincent Depaul or some other junk store, and bought old beat up stuff, then stripped it down and sanded it up, and fixed the drawers, then did all kinds of antique finishing, and this furniture looked better than brand new stuff, and was a point of pride in the family.

Dad was able to get his sons good paying industrial contractor construction jobs, based on his job.  This was nepotism plain and simple, but he required that we work just as hard and diligently as any of our co workers, and told our employers that hiring his sons would have no affect on them bidding contracts with his company, and that they should fire us if we we weren't good workers.  Both of us worked our asses off (and it was the hardest, filthiest most dangerous work I ever did in my life) and we made more than men working on the Detroit auto assembly lines (like half our friend's dads), and we were to never talk about how we got our jobs, or how much we made, to anyone.  And we didn't.

After I was working mowing laws (13-14), I was to put something in the church collection plate out of my own pocket.  It didn't have to be a lot, but it had to be something.

One of my dad's jokes ended with a punch line..... Hey mister, I don't mean to be personal or anything, but just how much money DO you make?    He thought this was hilarious.

Dad passed five years ago.  I miss him.  So does mom.  Richard Henry was the very best man I ever knew.  Smiley

And where the hell were you when Bscrive was trashing Trump. Oh that's right you have no problem with someone commenting when their beliefs are the same as yours. But when they differ look out.  Good job responding to the PM I sent to you by the way. I knew you were all talk.....

I haven't responded yet because I really haven't had time to really give it the thought it requires. I thought I'd be able to do it today, but work was too busy.

Don't worry, be patient... Wink

Ya yer right...It's easier to blow off someone's comment by calling them unqualified to even make a comment. And yes, you have been through it before so I can see why you reply the way you do.

I never said you were unqualified. You seem clever enough. It just happens to be none of your business, and replying like you do just makes it look the equivalent of a pissed off old white guy screaming 'GET OFF MY LAWN'. Like you get up every morning looking for something to piss you off.

You'll never see me berating your PM, regardless of party. It's none of my business! See how that works?

Wink
No pat on the back Robert ? I figured you would be excited that I accepted your challenge.

I must admit I was surprised, I think you accomplished your goal, now I would take them down though. I don't think its a good idea for him because he has many more enemies than you. But I still don't think it is a good idea for you either. Nothing really helpful can be gained by posting the returns either from the president or you. I don't believe in doing something if it has no real good purpose and can be used by anyone that may not have your best interest at heart.

BTW I think you have the record for the fastest post taking a left turn.  2funny 2funny

I blocked out my SSN and address. I don’t think there is any vulnerability for me. Anybody can get our names from the Inzane sign up pages and other places. (You think I have less enemies ?) I doubt I’d fare too well in a head to head poll here.  Wink

How about all the bad actors in the FBI, CIA and the DOJ involved in signing the FISA warrants to spy on the Trump Campaign, spying during the time leading up to his inauguration, and ultimately the resulting Mueller "Inquisition" for the last two years???

I don't ever see anyone here getting involved in Canadian politics. Why are you bothering to be involved in ours?

In another post you labeled yourself and baldo as liberals which was a surprise to me but I let it pass as it was you doing the labeling. From my perspective I find you as one who relishes taking on any opposing opinion and "daring" anyone to come out for a word battle. I also find that you and baldo relish telling those who draw a conclusion about you from what you post how wrong they are. Of course we all know that liberals are so much more intelligent than the rest of us that it's just too tempting to not throw out the bait. I'm not particularly good at labeling so for me you just fall in the category of a real headscratcher!

I haven't seen my yearbook in decades. I don't know what happened to it. Maybe my Mom has it. But I've got a WestPac cruise book that you might find interesting. Things got a little wild in 3 stops at Subic.  Wink But as far as running for President, I'd be lucky to get 3 votes. I THINK my wife might vote for me.

To be clear, I personally don't think I am that liberal. But many here label me just right of Lenin. I just got tired of trying to explain where I stand and submit to members on the right here who view me as liberal. If one cares to know where I feel my views lie. Some things right of center and some things left of center. Over all maybe a little left of center, but nowhere near where most here judge me as. So, in short I wrote Bob and I (and a few others) as liberals for the sake of expediency in telling a story. A while back somebody posted some kind of quiz that judged your philosophy. I was very close to some here who consider themselves pretty conservative.
