One more turn should do it!

Kent, Ohio

« on: March 09, 2015, 02:50:11 AM »

Well the sun shined for 2 consecutive days here in NE Ohio. I was not in a plow truck on the weekend.
My attentions turned to the Valk..........yehhhhhhhh!

I'm looking to you guys for any tips, tricks or things to be aware of. When removing the hardware on Interstate bags? Seems simple, I know but I saw a spring in the latching system and got worried. "Gary you could ruin a wet dream" My own Mother once told me I am accident prone.
I picked up a set back in the Fall. Put them on a shelf in my work room and their they have sat. Problem is they are green and tan and I have a black Valk.
Another question, I assume both wheels have to be removed to remove both front and rear fenders? I would really like to paint the entire bike. Just not excited about having to do somewhat of a tear down. Gas tank is full to the brim also!
Well, gotta go get ready to go to work. I will check back tonight to see what you guys have to say.

you dont have to take the wheels off to get the fenders off. pretty much have to disassemble the whole bike though. fender rails, shocks, seat. some have taken the front fender off without removing the wheel also. I have never taken the front section of the rear fender off so maybe i'm not the best one to answer this question.

Removing the tins with the wheels on is more difficult.  On the front, the fasteners can be accessed but you will have clearance issues as you remove the fender.  On the rear, in addition to the bolts on the side rails, there is two bolts that attach the front section to the plastic battery box.  I have had all my tins off.

I also had my I.S apart for painting it's not that hard. I think the hardest part was the putting on the front fender on without scathing it. Just take your time. Do a little every day if something doesn't go right walk away from it and clear your mind and most times when you go back to the problem it will not be a big deal.

The fenders can come and go with the wheels installed no problem....you don't have to remove your wheels.

I've had all of my tins off the bike before.

The rear fender comes apart in two pieces.  It's not hard to do, just take your time.  You don't have to remove both of the chrome fender rails either....but I did remove one of them to make things a little easier to get the front section of the rear fender back in there.

The hardest part for me was getting the battery box lined back up and bolted to the front section of the rear fender again....but it wasn't that hard to do really.

The front fender isn't hard to remove and reinstall either.  To take it off and on with the front wheel still there, all you have to do is squeeze the sides of it a tad while taking it off and on.  Easy peasy.   cooldude

After you paint it, you might want to put some of that blue painters tape on the sides of the fender to prevent any accidental scratches while you put it back on....and don't forget to squeeze it again while putting it back on.

Would letting some air out of the front tire help?
