Trunk problem

Need some help, my bike man has been working on my bike for the last three months and the final peices are coming together but we have a problem and i know someone on this forum can give me some insight. I am putting an interstae trunk on my 98 tourer and it all mounted great but it does not leave enouph room to open tourer side bags. Trunk is to close and can only open side bags about 4 inches.
Is there somthing different about the interstate saddle bags. I used all the parts/mounts that came with the trunk and it mounted beautiful but when we put the saddle bags, original tourer, there is not much space..What am i missing here and is there a fix. Need help, hes ha my bike for three months. Were talking paint jobs, engine work, new shocks springs. The works. I need to ride. Thanks in advance.

Interstate saddlebags had different hardware at the front of the bag. Instead of a hinge there was a hook so the bag when unclipped at the lock side would lift off. They also had a cable holding the lid to the bag so it would not be lost by blowing off if forgotten to secure. Do a search for the info as it has been discussed before. I don't know if the hardware is still available from Honda or not.
