My 'gun' letter to the editor was published today with no editing. The first comment, on line, in the paper (anonymously) was derogatory of my letter.
Here's the link to the "Letter" Look in 'Opinions'
http://www.news-sentinel.com/Wayne, as a wise white haired old man I'm sure you know the first comment isn't always the wisest comment.
Well written letter, Wayne.
As a responsible gun owner and concealed carry permit holder, I have never felt
that the government was planning to take my guns. Sometimes, I think gun
and ammo makers are fanning that fire, behind the scenes. They have
become very rich because of such fears.
I would take you to task on the line, regarding Roosevelt, "He did not wage war on our citizens, nor did he blame our citizens for Japan’s act of aggression."
Two words, "internment camps". Approximately, 120,000
lawful citizens were rounded up and kept like prisoners,
just because of their race.
I also believe that people who disagree on certain issues can be still be
respectful and friendly toward one another. I have seen a troubling trend
on the board, where if someone disagrees with one topic, they are
labeled the enemy. The silliest thing I have seen, is calling anyone who
leans to the left as the enemy and making presumptions that aren't
necessarily true. I'm an independent who voted democratic the past two
elections, but that doesn't mean I am a gun hater and against capital
punishment. These issues are not black and white (no pun intended) and most of
us are somewhere in the middle, not far right or far left. But you would never
know it, reading some of these posts.
Well said sir.
