Video on news show LOTS of people of all ages and sexes marching in their support. Not sure of reason, other than what news says. Reasons seem all over the place. Don't know if the truth will ever be clear. Seems like rancher is getting 5 years in prison for fire escaping, and burning a little over 100 acres of refuge. Are accused of poaching, but I do not believe the sentence is for that. |

Yep some more good old boys who feel wronged by the gov't and say enough is enough.  Several years ago a Hammond created a backfire to protect his home and ranch. My grandfather use to do this so in case of a real fire it would run out of fuel before it reached his house. Problem was Hammond did this on BLM land. Accused of arson and spent several months in jail. Now the Feds say he did not spend enough time in jail and want to give him 5 years for the past crime he already served time for. Clive Bundy's son is one of the leaders. There may be a lot more to it and I have yet to get the whole story. Someone needs to be let in and interview these folks to get their real story and that means someone not from the far left lame stream left stream drive by news media who will only portray these as bible and gun totin kooks. That's what I heard... "Double Jeopardy". Ranchers (father & son) were tried and sentenced years ago... spent one year in prison, then were released after "time spent". Now the law changes... it became a Federal offense (not a fed offense first time around). So the Government is charging them with a SECOND crime under the NEW law. The Government's thinking is that it's not "double jeopardy" if you are tried under a different law. (Forget the whole ex-post-facto thing... that no longer matters.)  |

They don't sound like they're masters of their universe. They've been there 4 days or so, and are already begging for food, socks and supplies. |

They need to take a lesson from Ferguson, The demonstrators went in destroyed other peoples property did not have to shoot it out with anyone and no one got arrested and they had everyone talking about how to reply softly and allow them to burn and loot till they got it out or their system and now the police are still being targeted and one life matters campaign. Everyone was actually on their side including liberal schools sending protesters to help protest.
These guys will get killed and they will chalk it up to nut jobs.
Can we start a ranchers matter campaign or white lives matter. I wonder if the mayor of the town will come in and say don't worry let them go.
I also wonder if we will have the justice dept investigate the government for unfair treatment of ranchers or people out west. Maybe even Blasio will come out and support the efforts these guys are dong. Maybe we should have a new rancher knock out or something along that lines to show how unfair this is.
Before I hear calls about prejudice I want to make it clear this is why laws have to treat everyone the same.

The BIG government has had a double standard for years
Just ask any of the native americans who lived on any land, anywhere
IMHO the current fees for ranchers system (sheep or cattle) is bullshit all the way top to bottom
There needs to be a better system for the people using the land not to be automatically the enemy, just like a farmer who wants to grow non gmo corn should not be the enemy, or the farmer who wants to use the rain that falls on his land or lies beneath it (riparian rights)
Obama should PARDON both father and son and the standoff will be over Just post that the farmers are black and all will be forgiven

When we were on vacation in Ireland I was in a pub one night talking to some locals. They discovered I was from AK and we started talking about hunting and fishing. Virtually all the land there is privately owned. The effect of this is only rich people get to hunt and fish. Not something I would want see happen here. Although if we sold the Grand Canyon , Yosemite, etc. we could thin out the heavy crowds. The damn peasants are always getting in the way.  |

Years ago I was there visiting my grandparents. My Granddad would take me to a bar that had $.25 beers and Armadillo tacos. Do people there still eat them ? Here is an interesting comparision about Fire Liability in the Fed gov't. Comes from an Agriculture source, not political. Ranchers have been putting up with BS from the Feds for over a 100 years. Don't think it is all about this little incident. It is well over 100 years of grievances. |
