Settling in and starting to dig it. What I have learned is that being home with Bonnie every day now, let's just say that threading pipe by hand and laying pipeline and building fire retaining levees with a shovel when I was 18 years old was easier work than retirement so far!!!

I never realized that the "honey do" list had grown so large after all these years of working in Africa. Wow! But I have to admit, the yard never looked as good this early in the year.

And we never had a garden before......well, we do now and I sure am glad that I finished toting those 80 bags of dirt....

Also know that the garage has never been more cleaned and organized either........

Plus the 4 fur children sure have dug having me around ALL the time now.

Well, after a month or so of "need to unionize" work for a loving, but unrelenting, task master, it was time to feel a little bit of wind to maintain my sanity. Two wheels move the soul. So, took off for a couple of hours - no destination - just riding whichever way the bike moved me.
Wound up going down Bayou Tortue road with the Spanish moss covered oaks along the road.

Then over to St Martinsville and the Evangeline Oak.

Over to Oak and Pine Alley and since I was on the Wee, road it back and forth a couple of times.

Went through Coteau Holmes - and stopped by the curve that Bruce (DDT) had the U-Joint (I think) go out on him when he showed up one time on his gypsy journeys a couple of years ago. The great thing was that we got to spend a couple of extra days with my dear, dear friend while the Honda stealer repaired his magic carpet....come to think of it, it may have been the alternator....

Went down to the Henderson levee road and rode up to Red's. This was in the movie The Apostle with Robert Duval. When he was talking to a guy coming out of a bar/bus stop - this was it. I think Ms Mary has passed away now.........
Continued on the levee road enjoying the day and went across the pontoon bridge to Butte La Rose. This bridge was in the Apostle as well. When Robert Duval drove his car into a river (supposed to be in Texas) and climbed out - this was the bridge he climbed out on. We were living out there at the time and they shut the bridge down for a day while they filmed that scene.

Went by our old house in Butte La Rose (Red Butte) where Bonnie and I lived for about 12 years or so and then down to the Atchafalaya River - which was high due to the rain water coming down from North Louisiana and Texas.

Then road around the area for awhile and back through St Martinsville.....man, it sure felt AWESOME to get some wind, no matter how short. Got about 80 miles in - sweet miles no matter how short.

Got home and removed the ATV pad off the saddle - didn't add much comfort and spray painted the cap on the PVC tool carrier on the Wee and yesterday Bonnie took a nap (tired of pointing to what she wants done I think - that can be tiring)

so got back into the wind again.
Rode down to Spanish Lake and planned on riding the gravel road around it - but stopped at the visitor center and the rude lady said that NO motorcycles were allowed. Hmmm, so took off just checking out roads. Found a couple of nice ones.

Eventually wound up at Jefferson Island.

Weather was AWESOME and scenery was nice and there were 4 peacocks out (screaming like peacocks do).........

Eventually worked my way back to casa (got another 60 or so miles in) and laid grass seed. Another thing I have learned about retirement is that I used to talk about radioactive responses to formational fluids and fluid mobility and now I speak to neighbors about things like will the garden weasel loosen back yard dirt and is Bermuda a summer grass.....Oh well, I guess I prefer talking about garden weasels.

So, things I have learned in the last month - AARP is great to have if you are starting insurance programs, retirement is hard work, pressure washing your house will take twice as long as you think, wind sure feels good and yes, a garden weasel will loosen back yard soil!

Well, back to work..............HEY, I THINK THERE IS A BBQ AND A GATHERING OF SOME FOOLS IN A WEEK! WHOOOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! This fool sure is ready!!!!!!!!
