House Democrats stage congressional sit-in to demand a vote on gun control
http://www.aol.com/article/2016/06/22/house-democrats-stage-congressional-sit-in-to-demand-a-vote-on-g/21400143/

Democratic members of Congress staged a sit-in on the House floor Wednesday morning, demanding a vote on gun reforms in the wake of the Orlando massacre.

Led by Rep. John Lewis, a Georgia Democrat who was a leader of the Civil Rights movement, more than two-dozen members joined the sit-in — which came a little over a week after 49 people were killed and 50 more injured when a man opened fire on a gay nightclub.

"We have lost hundreds and thousands of innocent people to gun violence," Lewis said at the outset of the sit-in. "Tiny little children, babies, students and teachers, mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, daughters and sons, friends and neighbors. And what has this body done, Mr. Speaker? Nothing. Not one thing. We have turned a deaf ear."

Because of that, lawmakers involved in the sit-in snapped their own pictures and tweeted them out, despite the fact that photos are not allowed in the chamber.

The sit-in comes two days after the Senate failed to pass gun reforms that would have barred suspected terrorists from purchasing guns, as well as expand background checks to people wishing to purchase firearms.

Senate Democrats staged a 14-hour filibuster to push for votes on those bills, which went on to fail.

Interesting. I, personally liked Paul Ryan's response.

Oh look, Democrats fighting to deny American Citizens basic civil rights.... just like Democrats did during the civil rights era of the 1960's... Some things never change.

Yeah, those 'people' should do a sit in because of Chicago's black homicides which are going through the roof. Illinois and Chicago have strict gun laws. but, since it involves black shooting other blacks, it is not PC to talk about.

I'm tired of these dishonest pols.

I'm curious, does anyone know if Pelowsi is sitting in on this?   I doubt it, not because she's not supporting it but, she has more important things to do.   Her hair appointment, her make up appointment, her nose stuck up Obama's..............  You know, stuff she thinks is important.  Wink

This makes me think of (remember) when our fearless leader was addressing the nation at the State of the Union address before the AHC act was passed.   He stated to the world that they had the votes and they could pass what they wanted and proceeded to do so.

The Dems have provided an interesting reaction to when they don't have the votes..........

Lets just delete the Capital police department, and let congress defend itself with no US budget spending.

Come to think of it, lets delete all their chairs too.  They look good on the floor.

Let them apply to the District for permits to purchase, and concealed carry permits and watch the comedy begin.

A complete waste of time on a non issue and grandstanding for votes.  They'd be more useful as chum for fishing boats.

Let's not forget, they are sitting on the floor protesting in a building that is protected by people with guns.

Many, if not all of them probably have armed security to protect themselves and their families. Just more rich, limousine liberals who are afraid of the working class and want us disarmed so only they and their goons will have firearms. Wake up America!

They all deserve to be fired - voters do your job.

The ironic bit is that in the 60's they were fighting to GET civil rights, not they're fighting to DENY people civil rights...

They're just doing what democrats do  crazy2
I guess, in this case, that means DOING THE PUBLIC'S BUSINESS.

In case you missed the TRUTH - and, as always, you people do - they are asking for a VOTE.  Not the approval of the bill, just the vote on the bill.

That's right: the Democrats, on this occasion, are actually - GASP!! - ASKING CONGRESS TO DO ITS JOB.

NOT push something under the table because some special interest group has them in their back pocket and insists that the public's representatives ignore the issue completely.

Just: get up on their feet, walk to their positions in Congress, sit down and VOTE.  If the Republicans would VOTE, either YES or NO, then this entire thing would be over.

But notice that the Republicans don't even WANT to vote.  They don't want to do their job and vote on a legislative bill currently up for debate.  And, therefore, the Democrats get the opportunity, the opening, to do this "stunt" that you abhor.

So rather than question "Why won't my Congress do what they are paid for?", you're saying "Yeah, they shouldn't do their job, how DARE the Democrats stage a sit-in and demand an actual VOTE? GAH!"

I agree.  Most people are fools.

Snake man,
They already voted on everything both parties submitted for a vote.   The Dems have not presented anything new or revised.   Hard to vote on something that hasn't been offered.   Roll Eyes

Apparently, the Dems have finally realized how foolish they were looking and just ended their "sit in".

Was kind of hoping they would stretch it through the 4th of July.

But, you know that wasn't going to happen, it's a paid holiday after all.  Wink

Ummm, you do know the Senate already rejected all the bills and a vote in the House would be meaningless?????? Or has someone changed how our political system works when I wasn't paying attention? (Oh yeah, the pretender in chief keeps trying that doesn't he.)

AMAZING!  Sure depends on which side of the aisle you are on.

The Republican House passed Bill after Bill, sent them over to the Senate, and Dingy Harry Reid just sat on them  NEVER called 99% of them to a vote.  Would NOT even hold hearings.

The Senate Republicans brought up LOTS, 1000's of proposals.  Again, Dingy Harry Reid REFUSED to even hold hearings on their ideas, much less actually VOTE on them,

NOW, all of a sudden, YOU are accusing the Republicans of not holding votes!!!!!!  Unbelievable.  Well, I guess not.

The saying is, "Turn about is fair play".  So, sit on it.  Quit whining.  Deal with it.

A victory for sitting on their asses and pretending to know what they talk about. We can not have these big black guns creating a mind of their own and start killing people. They are like wild animals and can not be trusted to sit in a safe. We must muzzle these dangerous weapons.   uglystupid2
