I finally was able to get on the boards this morning after about 2 hours worth of attempts. I appreciate all the things that the staff does to keep this thing going and I realize that they also have other things in their lives. The problem is.......so do I. Getting access to the boards is becoming almost a full time job for me. I have had the forums index address bookmarked and have used that bookmark for years to get here. For the past few months, it has become almost impossible. I am able to get here SOMETIMES by going to the VRCC Homepage and clicking on the 1800 Tech Board link. Even that route is a "crapshoot" at best.
I don't really have a need to use the site anymore since moving from the Valkyrie to the F6B, but I do like to read the 1800 Tech Board from time to time and read the "musings" of DDT here on the General Board.
Regretfully I will not be visiting the VRCC as frequently as in the past. It's just too time consuming to get here.
I'm not leaving "in a huff", nor am I pissed at anyone. I'm just growing weary of spending as much as half a day in order to access 5 minutes worth of reading.
This is a difficult decision as I have been on the VRCC Forums in all of its formats since day 1 of the VRCC being formed.
I'll check back in April to see what DDT has added.

I think it must be something at your end

VRCC is the second web page I open after  email. I occasionally gt the SMS whatever message. But it's very infrequent.

That's not good... The site was very unstable the last few weeks, but *knock on wood* has been running pretty well for me the last week or so...

Wish I could help figure out what's going on for those who are still having issues...

Edit to add - Just had a thought, something that might help, although unlikely, but shouldn't cause any harm is to flush your local DNS resolver cache... if you're on a Windows machine, open a command prompt with administrator privileges and enter the following command:

ipconfig /flushdns

DNS is the friendlyname to IP address look up system for the Internet (Friendly name - www.valkyrieforum.com and an IP address looks more like 66.45.242.206)

When your computer does a DNS lookup it will cache the results locally, but if you end up with a bad record in your local cache, it will keep looking up that bad record instead of going out and getting the current address, flushing your local DNS cache will force it to go back out to the Internet and get the current address.

Unfortunately, your ISP might be using a caching DNS server of it's own that's serving up stale records, and there's not much you can do about that (Unless you want to try re-configuring your client to use a different DNS server (4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 are good ones) but that's probably something most don't wanna tinker with.

Simpler (I hope Wink ) explanation of DNS cache:

You've got an address book that says your buddy Willow lives at 6 Cylinder lane.
You want to go to the Valkyrie get together at Willow's house, however Willow has moved to 1520 Valkyrie Way.

Your address book is the incorrect DNS cache.

Flushing it would be the equivalent of calling Willow and getting his current address information, and updating your address book....

If you drive to the VRCC gathering using the old address you won't find the VRCC gathering. If you update your address book to the current address and drive there, you'd hopefully, if your navigating skills are true, get to the right place.

Make sense now?

Willow had a Valkyrie gathering and didn't invite me ?  tickedoff

Yeah, I get it. It's just not interesting to me, so I don't pay much attention to that stuff. For all our sakes though, I'm glad it's interesting to some such as yourself.  cooldude

Thanks for the assistance Serk.

When I've had trouble, I've been able to get in through the 1800 tech page (sometimes).

That's a good explanation, Serk, but I think what most of the folks needed was not how it works but how they go about emptying their DNS cache.

Emptying my DNS Cache made no noticeable change for me. I frequent this board on several different computers that don't even reside in the same state and it makes no difference. I will say however that my service provider is Comcast in both cases.

I will also say that this is the only site that I have encountered that presents me with the misery of not being able to be in touch with my friends at my every whim.  Lips Sealed

I feel that I am entitled to refund for the loss of these services that cause me so much angst.  Wink

While perusing a website today that worked the first time I clicked on it, I found a saying that I liked and may even slightly apply to this situation.

"Successful people feel grateful for what they have. Unsuccessful people feel entitled for what they do not have and believe they deserve."

Don't think the service provider makes any difference...I have the same issues on two separate desktops, my laptop, my tablet, and my phone using 3 different providers...and whether I'm in BC, Ontario, New York, Denver, etc. Usually in the AM it's worse, and many times when the desktop doesn't work the phone will.  crazy2

Once again Larry here in Jonesboro, burb 15 miles south of Atlanta experiencing no problems on my PC windows 7 nor my Galaxy 4. I am on at least twice or more every day. Comcast interweb at home and what ever the wifi is at my grandsons school and his BJJ gym. Seriously, none. Being a analog guy stuck in a digital world I offer no explanation for this except just plain crapp house luck.....

Instead of loosing me at EDIT, now you lost me at SIMPLER...   uglystupid2

yah, website does not allow me in as well mostly mornings and nights are better.  does not bug me too much though we all eventually get in.  Does anyone think it is older operating systems like I have being windows Vista and need to upgrade to windows 10 or download or upgrade some type of software that this Valkyrie website needs to log in?  I doubt it though since this is the only website that has this issue on my web broswer of google chrome.

Works fine with my ten year old desktop PC with Vista operating system - and the two year old laptop with Win10 system . . . and my five year old droid smartphone device. Dish satellite beams me up every time at home no problems. The laptop always connects at home or on the road in various motel or cafe wifi locations. Droid connects no matter where I happen to be. Tried the droid process today in town . . . no problemo.

Since starting this thread 5 or 6 days ago, gaining access to the boards has gotten slightly better. I seem to have the best luck by "logging out" whenever I go to a different site, and then when I want to revisit the VRCC Boards, I go to the VRCC Home Page and click on the link to the 1800 Tech board. It doesn't always work but the success rate is a bit higher than when trying to get to the Forums Index through my "Bookmarks".
