Well after a number of long trips including one from Chicago to Wyoming last year and countless shorter excursions my Valk died on me in the most surprising place, my garage.

After all of the maintenance including valve stems, fork seals, timing belts and a new oem petcock installed about a month ago she made a loud bang when I starter her yesterday followed by a generous flow of gasoline out of the exhaust. I quickly shut her down but not before gas was mixed with the motor oil. I am heartbroken.

I think it may be time to move on but would like some advice as to what to do with her now. I'm really not in the mood to try a rebuild so that leaves me with trying to find someone who can use her in current condition or possibly trying to part her out to folks who really need to find some of those hard to find pieces. I would really appreciate some input and ideas.  Thanks -

Only my un educated guess, "hydro lock syndrome" Maybe put the thread on the tech side. New petcock, was it off? My understanding is it did start. Did it bust gears? maybe not Shocked Drain crankcase and do some diagnosis. There is oodles and oodles of info on this scenario.

Wouldnt call it quits just yet drain the oil take out the plugs, refill the oil turn the engine over and put the plugs back in and see what happens.

There are engines galore on Ebay. I bought a bike with hydrolock and rather than rebuild the engine I just bought a replacement and swapped it out. Was ready to roll in a matter of days.

FYI - she did start and I'm almost certain no gears were wrecked but I wouldn't guarantee it.

My gut is telling me it's time to move on.

For me, when it comes to motorcycling, the #1 thing that you must have, above all else, is confidence in your ride.

Obviously, yours is waning quickly, so I'd say it is time to move on.

Wish you much luck in finding your future bike. Lots of good ones out there.

As to what to do with your current one.
Your reluctance to "rebuild" it and fix it would seem to me that "parting it out" would be something you would not want to spend time on either.

I'd go for the selling it "as is" option. You wouldn't get as much money out of it but you wouldn't spend a lot of time in it either.  I'm sure there are guys just chompin at the bit for a project like this.

I'd do a little investgating. Like someone else said. Pull the plugs and see if it rolls over.  Might wanna do that outside. Could just be a carb issue / petcock problem. Cheaper fix than a new bike.

I've decided to go ahead and move on. A Goldwing is in order I believe.

So I guess I will try to find someone who wants it as is or at the worst part it out.

I appreciate all of the comments.

I am still very sad though. I'm playing taps in the garage later.

I sent you E-mails and contact info. You said you would contact me. I am still in the market. I told you I am about a half hour from you.

No kidding?  That's really interesting.  Easy swap w/o mods?
