Here's the route for the "Smell the Roses" ride on Saturday.

It's scenic and has tons of curves.

Even at a leisurely pace it will be enjoyable for all.

We will be coming up Friday out of Shady Valley " The Snake " on 58 very nice ride . 99% of the time that's how we leave to come home on Sunday after the ride each year... Going to change up our ride home this year... Nice ride you have laid out folks should enjoy that one.

Thanks Joe!

That means alot coming from an expert like you.  cooldude

Jane and I will be there, along with Heath and his bride Sara. See y'all Friday evening. We will be stopping in Tazwell to visit Don and Tracy at the hot dog stand if she's open.

I rode SR 16 from St. Mary's, WV to Marion, VA in early June.

Every bit of it was enjoyable, SR 16 from Marion to US 58 is also pretty good.

Been watching that also.

Two good things:

1) They aren't predicting an all day frog strangler.

2) There's still time for it to change for the better.

I never ride without rain gear on the bike, I prefer not to use it.

Hmmmmmm... White stuff, huh? Sheesh, you guys sure do have a wide range of weather you're willing to ride in! Oh well, gotta do what we gotta do, right? I'm thinking I'm still in for this one myself... My comfort range  surely isn't as wide as y'all's, but it's hard for me to pass on a chance to hang with y'all, so...

I'm going to hold-up with Reb for a couple of nights, then my current 'plan' is to join the southern group Friday morning at Bulls gap with Reb... Any chance we'll be doing some tire kicking this weekend? Oh, does anybody know if 'Harley Joe' will be 'Honda Joe' on this ride? I'd sure like to take a gander at that new scoot of his...

LOL! Yeah, Joe is funny about keeping his ride clean and shiny... We went to a 'quarter wash' frequently while riding around out west a couple of years ago... Come to think of it, all y'all are funny that way! Heck, I even know a guy up here who sneaks up and cleans the windshield on ALI from time to time... why, he's even given her a bath a couple of times, too! Am I missing something? Anyway, I'm glad he's still 'in' and will be on the Honda... a dang good guy, and a pleasure to have around!

Its been awhile since I broke out the rain suit. After we got caught in that turd floater on the way to Inzane in Spearfish a few years back, I can take any rain storm. That was the first time I wish the good lord blessed me with wipers on my eyelids. Nearly drowned riding down I90  cooldude

My plan was to ride to Knoxville today, it's looking pretty
wishy-washy now... I called Wimp and Joe and told them
not to plan around me showing up there today...

It's not raining at all here now ( it was ) but the roads are dry as I type this. Stick it in the wind and ride with us tomorrow.

I'd be sticking it in the surf more than the wind... it's rain from here to
Clayton and Franklin and all the rest of the way up 28 to the Dragon...
If I head out into the rain anywhere, it'll be tomorrow around
noon, to ground zero through NC on 221 and the BRP...

I have no doubt the BRP will be a fog bank tomorrow .... Be safe it gets bad on that mountain when the fog / clouds lay down on it  cooldude

We'll be taking The Snake 421 over to Shady Valley then through Backbone Rock into Damascus, Virginia then up 58. <----- That's if its not a turd floater  Sad

The forecast for Friday does look wet, it may be more of a game of storm tag than a constant rain though.

Saturday's forecast is improving down to a 35% chance of rain now.

Everyone take your time and ride safe getting to Sparta on Friday.

Due to the Crappy forecast for the BRP, we will most likely be taking an alternate route to Sparta, it is no fun to ride the BRP in any kind of storm.  uglystupid2

Ugh... the BRP is how I aim to avoid Blowing Rock and Boone,
if it is bad I could just hop back onto 221 after Boone... I haven't
ever traveled so much contiguous 221, but it leads most of the
way to Sparta. I know that in places like Boone 221 sucks eggs,
and that in some other places it is a good road through the country
side...

221 is a good ride.

Blowing Rock and Boone are a minor headache.

The traffic can be heavy but they are relatively small towns.

If you swing through Roanoke we can ride 221 to 58 to 21 if you like.

The weather forecast has changed so much that we may just have to rely on our weather rocks.

Rolled back into the driveway about 1:30PM

It was GREAT to spend time hanging out with everyone!

Harvey might have kept everyone from riding very much but he didn't stop us from having a good time.

We'll get the riding in next year.
