And no matter what, we do not want or need any new states out of the Caribbean (esp Puerto Rico).

First thing they did in USVI was summarily confiscate firearms.

If PR becomes a state, they'd have to follow fed law on confiscation. That being a declaration of martial law first. I visit the USVI every year. The govt is so corrupt that making it a state would be great. A Fed investigation would jail most of the elected officials.

Any state created out of the Caribbean would turn into a perpetual giant US taxpayer money rathole, with no return of any kind.  Territories and protectorates are bad enough.  And they would vote 100% D.  Before statehood, grant them independence and wish them will.

We have enough illegals without adopting them en mass.

There are some pretty brilliant celeberties out there - most of them in that category are smart enough to keep their trap shut when necessary.

I agree. But some here seem to get their panties in a wad over celebrities, sports figures, etc. So, I guess they are correct. Some really do care what they have to say.

I would think that anyone with even a shred of intelligence would.

I'm not saying that I believe that God is up there with a magic wand creating and directing hurricanes.

That's not how He works.

We should all be in awe of both the beauty and power of nature.

Both should humble us.

And if we're humbled by the creation we should certainly be humbled by the Creator.

Oh and BTW, God has more power over Mother Nature than Donald Trump has.

They both seem equally stupid statements to me. Seems like anyone with any shred of intelligence could see that.  Wink

One statement is stupid the other one is misguided.

God isn't using hurricanes to punish us, but He could if He wanted to.

I was thinking more that the other way involves easily identifying stupidity that contradicts one's own philosophy.   Wink

So, if a ditzy blonde actress with a liberal persuasion says something stupid its wrong. If a dumbass actor with a religious conservative persuasion says something stupid its ok. Be careful, your bias is showing. That dude knows nothing more about what caused that hurricane than that dudette. But because he is a "Christian" and she is a "anti Trumper" you assume he is right and she is wrong. Interesting theory you have.  Wink

I don't know the total. But there are plenty of religious conservatives who blame all kinds of natural disasters on the sins of some. Here is an example:

A handful of politically conservative Christians blamed 2005’s Hurricane Katrina — which struck New Orleans, Louisiana, and left more than 1,800 dead — on the Crescent City’s embrace of gay pride events.

“All hurricanes are acts of God, because God controls the heavens,” John Hagee, a Texas-based evangelical pastor who leads the Christian Zionist movement in the United States, said after Katrina. “I believe that New Orleans had a level of sin that was offensive to God, and they are — were recipients of the judgment of God for that.”
