Racism in this country was nearly dead and gone until Obama (pbuh) and his ilk brought it back to life.

Serk, for a smart guy like you to make a statement like that....are you under duress or just trying to be funny?

I was 100% serious, and that wasn't an idly made comment.
Racism had mostly been obliterated in this country until Obama and his administration did everything in their power to rip off the old scabs and pour lemon juice into the wounds, trying to stir up as much racial strife and animosity as possible.
And he was quite successful at that.

It's an old tactic. Create an "Us vs. them" so you have something for your voting bloc to rally around.

Truth:

We never argued about race in my home, until Obama was elected president.  Since then, there has been several heated discussions.

Serk is correct.  There were and will always be individual racists, but the identity politics and race cards played over the last 9 years has erased so much progress.  Look what it has become........ now patriotism is being equated with racism.   Certainly not the Right's fault.  That has the filthy smell of the Left all over it.

Looks like an extra column will need to be added to a player's stats now... Have we really gotten to this level of silliness?!?!?!

Trades them for stronger faster ones

Howard Cosell comes to mind

Dan

You may be confusing Cosell and Jimmie The Greek.

I think you are correct

My mistake, thank you

Agree 100%. Obama needed, wanted and fostered racial division. And, as can be seen, his legacy is still harming our people and our country.

Any statistics to back up this claim ? Or do you just "feel" it to be so ?

That's interesting.  Do you have any statistics to contradict this claim or do you just "feel" it to be not so.   Wink
I'm not the one making spurious claims.

It appears the spurious quality is largely determined by perspective.

I think Serk's comment summarizes it perfectly.
As to what should be done.. I think everyone should take all money they would have spent on any NFL event TV or otherwise and donate that amount to the hurricane fund.

I lost a friend of more than 35 years over this. This being "Obama inspired racism". She's an older black lady who grew up in the same small town I did although we didn't know each other until she, my wife and I all worked together in a now closed plant. While working together we because close friends, as did our families, in particular our daughters.

Although we didn't see each other much in person after our daughters grew up we stayed in contact nearly weekly via, phone, E mail or Facebook.

Then came Obama. Within a year of his election everything became about race with our friend. No conversation could be undertaken which didn't lead to "our people still aren't free". Although we had always joked about race, we joked because we were above it. Because we didn't stoop to thinking it was an important aspect of who we were. Until Obama somehow changed that for her.

She spoke well until then, now she speaks online in a manner which would suggest she is an uneducated thug, in-spite of being in her 70's. And of course, now she and all non-whites are victims of racism, in-particular, victims of the racist Trump. Mel and I unfriended her (on facebook) as she got more and more embarrassing and insulting. Although some in the family have stayed friends with her so we see her posts, shake our heads and wonder where our friend went.

But truthfully, I know where our friend went. She and our friendship were swept away by Obama's new racism. If it can reach into small town Indiana, it's no surprise that it's also led to a general wariness and lack of civility through out the country. I hate to ever admit the bad guys are winning, but on the racism front, the purveyors of racism do seem to be winning. I truly hope we can reverse it before it's too late. America beat this foe once. I would have never believed a US president would bring it back. Maybe the saddest thing I've ever witnessed.

You really have to question were they really friends or was the race issue always under the surface hidden.

I have had a few heated discussions with one of my black friends. He is or was racist, until one day I asked him a few simple questions while in the middle of a somewhat heated discussion about Obama and race.

I asked

Have I always kept my word to you?
Have I always looked out for you?
Have I always helped you?
Have I ever been mean to you?

He said you have always been good to me but still didn't like my color and the discussion closed on a strained note. I have known this man for 20 years and we have always had a fairly good relationship. After this incident in about 2 days he came to me and apologized and said it will never happen again, now, that is a friend. It took that time for him to get beyond the color issue and realize I have probably been better to him than most he knows. I was a bit shocked actually by the whole incident and did not realize that this was below the surface.

We can look beyond color and see the qualities that make up the person and in those qualities we can decide who is going to be a friend. But to base it on color is wrong for either side.

Really the games have become incredibly boring, for me the dancing after every tackle the somersaults into the endzone etc...no longer entertaining.  I played college basketball the players making 20 million a year couldn't have played 30 years ago all the guards palm the ball every time they dribble that call doesn't exist anymore. They all travel with the basketball before they either dunk of lay it up all in the name of a more entertaining game I think not.  I don't watch the NBA or the NFL because I know better they are giving a crappy product.  The owners have all backed the players and now were all playing Mexican sweat they think this is all temporary well they are wrong, wrong, wrong.  The NFL has really damaged the game and it will be years if ever to get back to where they were.

I think we were. Her daughter spent the night here many times and our daughter stayed there pretty often too. We ate together sometimes. We shared our garden produce with them and passed kids toys and clothes to her since she had a son younger than our youngest. When her son was thinking about a law enforcement career she sent him to me to teach him firearms safely and the basics of marksmanship and we had fun shooting together.

Perhaps she was always a racist and we didn't realize it, I don't know. Our daughters are still friends, but no longer close friends like they were. I still can't get my head around it. I do know, it started when the Obama racial divide swept the country and I do know I'll never give her a second chance. Fool me once and all that.

Let me add, your words are well thought out and insightful. I guess we never really know what's going on in head and heart of another person. I'm glad your outcome was positive and included a saved friendship.  cooldude
