I wanted to ask you fine folks about storage for attachment to the handlebars of my 2000 Interstate.  Any recommendations?  I'm looking for a spot for a pack of smokes, sunglasses, stuff like that.

I haven't needed smokes for a while. But I like my tank bib for glasses, phone, etc. I have a Hopnel, but one of our supporting vendors is Talisman.

I found a W/S pouch at a M/C shop in Illinois while I was visiting my Brother. It was NOT designed for my I/S but my Brother IS cursed good at fabrication!  cooldude Most of the after market stuff I find is designed for H/D. IF there is a W/S pouch designed for our Valkyries I'm not aware of it. We have a board sponsor who makes custom designed leather work and I've seen his tank pouches and I'm drawin a blank on that Mans name!  Lips Sealed Someone will chime in with his name and contact info and you could ask bout W/S pouches IF that's what you want. Tryin to figure how I went so long without one. Specially handy on toll roads when you need cash!  Roll Eyes RIDE SAFE.

Besides a tank bib-pouch, maybe one of those drink holders could be fashioned onto a small storage compartment.

Tank bags don't work great with the Valk gas hole garnish, and scratch the tank paint.

No one ever designed a three-pocket windshield pouch for the inside of the IS fairing/shield.  I think it's been done, but requires some fabbing.

Smokes and lighters in a tshirt pocket go flying away soon after you leave the driveway.  tickedoff

Mine don't.  A tank bag that scratches the paint would be a poor design.

In fairness I must say that I only use the tank bag when traveling.

I don't think there's a tank bag alive that won't end up scratching or rubbing the paint if it's left on there.

My old Heritage Bib has been on one of my bikes for 10 years, and it shows (but I almost never take it off).  On the upside, when a can slipped out of my hand, it hit the bib and not the tank (so no dent).

FWIW, before I devised a better fix, putting a towel under my solo rack duffel, only slowed the bag paint rubbing down, it didn't stop it. (or maybe that's a microfiber)

It's day long freeway trip rides (8-10 hrs of vibration) where I got the rubs, not short jaunts.

I have that same tank bag. Magnetic flaps hold it just fine. I also just use it for traveling. Very handy.

I have a small leather fanny pack (never worn as such) that has 2 magnets and it sits over that pesky glare gas cap   Keep ear plugs, spare sunglasses some bills and small 1st aid kit in it  Had it at least 10 yrs never a scratch

And I have an interstate

It came on my Valk I/S when I bought it some 9+ years ago, but is an iron horse leather pouch that goes below the tach and speedo in the middle of the handlebars. right in front of the middle of the gas tank.  I never put anything in it though, just looks cool.  It would hold a pack of smokes and sunglasses if need be but that is about it.  I like it since it looks cool and covers up that empty space upfront in the middle.  I also love my iron horse leather tank bib works great for my mp3 player and some change is about it in the smaller pouch down below.  It would hold a pack of smokes but doubtful for even sunglasses.

I suppose you can do the same thing very cheap with a fake leather black vinyl small fanny pack wrapped around the middle of the handlebars in the middle like mine in front of the gas tank below tach/speedo.  would be easy to do and work as long as not too big to hit the gas tank while turning the handlebars.

I also have 2 very nice black plastic barefoot willie cupholders that work GREAT for drinks or smokes or sunglasses just fine and has been working well the past 9 years as well not breaking and very secure for like 21 bucks each.   It has held up just fine with a LARGE sized Mcdonalds soda plastic cup  filled and that is pretty heavy and still secure.  I was thinking the plastic clamp would break over time since I cranked it on pretty tight to the handlebars, but so far has held up just fine all these years.

Not a fan of magnetic tank bibs since although they say they will not scratch the paint,  I think they all will over time especially if left on all the time.  A clean waxed tank helps to prevent scratches which is obvious if using a magnetic tank bib.  I bought one being a Joe Rocket one,  new over 65 bucks,  for 20 bucks on craigslist just for the heck of it since bought other bags from this guy dirt cheap.

Wife says I need to STOP buying ATV and cycle accessories on craigslist since I now have enough to last me the next 20 years or more for 3 cycles and 3 more ATVs.   She says just because it is a good deal does not mean you need to buy it.  I say the same thing on her buying clothes and shoes all the time.... 2funny

I put those Ape Hangers on my bike, I found a couple of Bicycle Frame Pouches in Wal-Mart that fit the handle bars perfectly. I'll have to get a pic of them later.
