Saw this in the ST1300 owners forum, re-posting here:
http://www.healthycanadians.gc.ca/recall-alert-rappel-avis/hc-sc/2017/65116r-eng.php

KN-204 Oil Filters made from March 2016 to August 2017 were affected. The defect may cause it to *leak* oil through the nut.

Not sure if people use those in Valkyries, but it is worthwhile to verify if you use K&N filters.

I'm dropping K&N altogether and going all the way with Purolators.

I used the K&N a couple of times but found it not as good as the Purolator so I stuck with that. The one I used to use before they changed the product line was the Pure one in the yellow housing. I now use the Purolator Boss in the black housing since its the most free flowing of all the filters and still does a better job than the OEM filter. Purolator was taken over by another company and changed their product line filter medium. The Boss filter has the same filter medium as does most of the high mileage synthetic filters today. Made well alot of material good antidrain back valve and flows well.

  I tried the OEM on the 1800 figuring new bike lets stick to OEM and was not happy at the color of the oil. So in the middle of the oil service life changed the filter and within a few hundred miles the oil had indeed cleaned up. A simple test of the filter ability to filter.

@Robert: totally agree, K&N nevermore.

Turns out I was a 'lucky' one (see that it is a '7H' code, so it is one of the faulty filters).

From the recall page: "The defective oil filters will contain as the second and third characters of the code the number/letter combinations of 3H, 4H, 5H, 6H, 7H, 8H, and 9H with the number corresponding to the month of the year and the letter "H" representing the year 2016."

I had just 3K miles in this Mobil 1 Full synthetic oil (service interval for ST1300 is 8K miles, like the valkyrie).

I guess is cheaper to loose the good oil than to crash the bike.

@Robin: probably he was speaking about PBL14610:

PBL14610 or PBL14612 same filters just different lengths. I use the PL14610 the longer one and have no problem with it on the 1800.

I had a company once try to sell me oil filters for my Valk and they sent me a gratis oil filter. I looked at it for a long time and didnt want to try it but one time said what the heck. Put it on and seemed fine except one day was looking and there was a spot of oil on the floor, no way not out of my Valk and sure enough the filter was leaking. Checked the oil level which I rarly do since these bikes never burn or leak oil and it was 1 and 1/2 qts low.

Good lesson, not used to checking oil levels dont use filters that can leak.

Threw the filter away and used a Pure One and never had a problem, so yes Savago change the filter.
