I haven't heard from or seen any postings from Bruce BF lately. So, I went to his house to check on him Saturday. His wife answered the door and wouldn't let me see him, he's really not well. Bruce is in hospice care right now so the time is near. I felt pretty useless, nothing you can say to make someone feel better its a crappy thing. Been there!
Just thought you all deserved to know and could be praying for BF and family.

Thanks for checking up on him Jeff. And thanks for caring for his bike. I'm sure it meant a lot to him. It's very sad news indeed, but not unexpected . I hope he is as pain free as possible. It's been a long hard slog for him and his family. He will be missed.

I, too, loved reading his posts. He was great and always spoke his mind.....and he had a good mind. This is hard to read, you are correct. I wanted to get up your way and meet him as we pretty much knew this may happen. Never did. Yet another lesson learned. Life is short....and getting shorter.

. . . equally hard to read. Have been reading his posts for years. I, too, had noticed they dropped off in the past months. I had been wondering about him. I recall he took the news of his health situation standing up and head on a couple years ago. A fighter he is. Sad.

Thank you ChrisJ for posting
Bruce has shown us that he is a fighter and an example of grit, humor and faith in his fight against that cancer.
I hope his remaining days are easy, Godspeed Bruce

( I love looking over his creation and know he is thrilled you bought) I can only imagine how difficult it must have been knocking on his door but thanks for the update and posting his address. I'm going to get a card out in the mail to him tomorrow. Thank for your efforts.

Understand your feelings on this but until you are faced with the diagnosis you really can't know what you would actually do. CANCER DOES SUCK!

If it comes to me I may just ride that crap out and not make myself sick from chemo and die anyway.
Today, many cancers (esp if discovered early) are curable (or successfully treatable) in a high percentage of cases. Others, like pancreatic, are a near certain death sentence (and pretty quick too).
I feel the same way about having the last months of my life made unbearable with chemo and radiation and surgery, but if something very treatable is found, I would probably let them torture me for awhile, if chances are good for successful treatment.
I also have a bad attitude about taking (all or most of) my life savings away (even with insurance) if the idea is just to soak up all my money before I die anyway. You may not be able to take it with you, but I have family that I'd rather get it than the sawbones community.
So, it really depends. All cancer is not equal, survival-wise.

I have a church friend who has pancreatic cancer. Lots of prayers and she is still taking treatments. I also have two Korean War buddies who are under treatment for cancer. I have had surgery three times for bladder cancer but my cancer is non threatening with no treatments (so far).
I don't know if I would accept treatment if it became necessary............and probably no one else can say that either. Living this long and with a kinda bad year, the old saying "The man who dies with the most toys wins" is pure bullshit!
Believe me, the end result and the only thing that counts is your health and your Faith (if you have it).
My Miata was on the back burner most of the time this year, except when I could go for an attitude adjustment ride.

I have one family member with a very recent diagnosis and treatments. It’s kicking his ass bad and he says he wants to die. We are all trying to stay as positive as possible but it is tough knowing how to handle the situation.

I did a little Googling, and I'm afraid I have sad news. Looks like he's at peace and out of pain now. Bruce Alvis Fogarty, age 64, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017. He was born on September 3, 1953 in Tampa, Florida, to William P. Fogarty and Nina Fogarty. Bruce grew up in Valparaiso and played in Boggy Bayou. He was a graduate of Niceville High School and OWJC, where he received an associate's degree. After serving in the USAF, Bruce settled back in Fort Walton Beach where he worked at the McKinley Climatic Lab for over 30 years. Bruce is preceded in death by his father, William P. Fogarty and mother, Nina T. Fogarty, brother, Eugene Fogarty and sister, Shirley Fogarty. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Linda Murphy Fogarty; son, Aaron P. Fogarty; son, Ryan T. Fogarty; niece, Debbie Cross (Michael); niece, Candi Bennet (Gary), nephew, Andy Fogarty and grandson, Ryan Michael Andrews. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Cinco Town Hall from 2-4 on Saturday, January 6, 2018. Donations can be made to Alaqua Animal Refuge, Freeport, Florida in Bruce's memory. A special thank you to Dr. Thomas Johnson, Dr. Chris Hanson and the great care he received from Emerald Coast Hospice. I have never met Bruce in person, however I have read thousands of post on VRCC forum looking for information. Bruce posted in many of them along with others who have posted here. Much helpful information has been gleaned by the reading of his postings.
As I have read each of them I have been able to understand and respect the life that has been lived well. I am sure as I continue to search this forum, I will run across more postings of Bruce's and enjoy the conversations of one of his passions. He has sparked much thought and helped to create a great library of information here on the Valkyrie Riders Cruiser Club.
