I am thinking about getting a smart watch. Not because I need one but I love geeky stuff sometimes. Have any of you used a smart watch and do you have any recommendations? I definitely don't want to spend 4 or 5 hundred bucks for one!

Never seen the point. Just my $0.02! Seems too many are wrapped up in the latest greatest piece of technology that serves zero purpose other than to take your mind off of reality.

I have a Garmin Vivosmart HR.  A few years ago My heart was in A-fib for a while.  They converted it back to proper rhythm... twice.  After that my cardiologist suggested I get something to track my heart rate.  I like it.  It is not that expensive.

Here is what I have found; the heart rate (pulse) function is pretty accurate as long as the watch is worn snug.  If it is allowed to be loose then the reading gets really screwy.  As far as the rest of the readings, IE: stairs climbed, steps walked, distance ran, calories burned, ETC, ... well nothing is perfect.  Those readings may be useful for increasing or decreasing something you are doing but beyond that I would not trust the accuracy at all.  This watch sometimes counts sleep time when I am actually watching TV, although it does count it as light sleep.

Maybe the tech has improved now.  This watch is almost 4 years old now.

I think your talking to the wrong crowd here about this.  Wink

I dont really wear a watch but was eyeing the Apple watch since my son has it and he actually uses it quite a bit. It all depends on what you want one for. He picks up his messages on his and calls, the Fit Bit I heard is pretty good.

agree, all depends on what you want it for which you never said originally.  Fit bits are fine for basic stuff 100 bucks or so but the apple watch and others like that which are more expensive does more.  Both YOUNGER guys in their 20's and most others in their 20's at work have them thinking is NEEDED.  I suspect most of us on here over age 45 or so do not think they are NEEDED, more of a novelty item.  Both guys in their 20's at work have commented to me they have done blah, blah steps per day walking, blah blah calories burnt, blah blah answering phone, etc., blah blah counts sleep time.  Personally, I could care less on all of that.  They think it is cool and a MUST have, to each their own.  If I am going to spend 200+ bucks on a watch, it better serve me a nice beverage, otherwise will use that money on a new TV or needed items like paying the bills.

You said you don’t “need” one but like geeky things.  Many good smartwatches out there depending your budget and expectations.  Wife has a Apple and I have a Fitbit Blaze - she exercises on a regular basis and I don’t.  She has used the phone / message option on hers many times and found it handy.  Have a friend who has the Apple and rather than search for her phone  when her kids text/call she can see it on her phone and decide if it requires an immediate response or continue with her job (hair stylist) until she get a break.  Both our Apple and Fitbit track steps which is a nice feature if you want to know that info - sometimes I do and sometimes not.  When we first got them we used a lot of the features a lot of the time - now, not so much for me.  I still check the pulse somewhat regularly and will track my steps if I think I will be doing a lot of walking and curious to know how many.  Stopped tracking the sleep function months ago - the novelty of that wore off.  Best thing I like about the Fitbit is the large numerical time display which I can get from many other much cheaper watches.  Whatever you get get there will be a lot of interest in the beginning but much of it will probably wear off over time.  Guess it all depends on what you what from it and what your interest/expectations are from it.
