The lower Hudson Valley

It poured the last 36 hours and the salt and ice are gone.
checked tires, perfect air pressure for winter  front 39 rear 43

Put the jacket liner under the mesh jacket and started the Valkyrie right up.  Warmed it up and took a nice ride up along the Hudson River to the Annsville Circle.  It was 31 in Ossining when I left and bright sunshine, a stiff breeze off the river and no other bikes (what the heck is up with that anyways?)  Stopped by Indian Point reactors but didnt feel like taking any pics, just sat and enjoyed the breeze off the river for a while

Ended up turning off the jacket control and left only the gloves on
It was only 25.2 miles but it felt great after several weeks of not riding.

When I came back I remembered that I was bummed that I had forgotten to harvest a small plot of potatoes before the deep freeze so I spent some time in the side garden.  This is what I got for 10 minutes work in a 2x3 area    I would guess 5-6 lbs of yukon gold organic potatoes.  They will make fine mashed potatoes later with a steak on the grill and some cauliflower rice

Its a northern thing, riding in the winter, southerners may not get it but that is ok  They are spoiled by daytime highs in the 50's and up most of the winter

Anyone get out today?

Can't beat it. A ride and something for supper!  Our snow was gone a couple of days ago but too much crap still on the road. Started the bikes but couldn't ride. I'm envious Oss, good on ya.

When I was living in Grayling MI I used to love the a quick ride when there was a perfect "storm" of tolerable temps, not snowing, and the roads being free of salt...and I would take off. Even if it was just a few miles it was...glorious. Then it would get real cold, get some snow and we would be back to winter

Glad that you got in a ride, Oss. Reminds me of the time a few back when I always tried to ride on New Years Day.

One time I found out two things.  My 900F would run 123 flat out in 30 degree weather and two, my jacket and pants were not much without heated gizmos to help.

Glad you got a ride in and I used to love doing a steak on the outdoor grill when it was 20 degrees out.

Sometimes in late November I did not take the boat out of the water yet and a few times came in from boating and spending sometime on the water. It was lightly snowing and started up the grill, snow was falling the smell of the grill and some veges it was awesome. That was such a good time.

surprise your potatoes were still good if much below freezing temps even if in the ground.  am sure they keep better in the ground but I guess your dirt was not frozen solid down say 6 inches or more like it is in WI.  our yukon gold potatoes are one of the earliest we pick come late summer months and next year we are going to put them tad bit deeper and pile on more mounds of dirt over them to keep more growing and growing upwards.

After a light snow on Wednesday, our temps have worked their way up to mid 40's.  Yesterday got in an enjoyable second ride of the year.  Since the mountains around here still have frost and bit of ice here and there, rode mostly on the flats in the Klamath Basin.  On a warm day I can do over 200 miles and never leave the basin nor ride the same road twice.   Wasn't quite that warm yesterday, but I did get in 120 miles.   Mostly slow as was riding secondary county roads, though did get up to speed when I tried to pass one A-hole who thought it was funny to speed up when I went to pass.   Sure like the old lady abilities to suddenly speed up to over 90 in a short time.

Feel sorry for you folks who can ride this time of year.   So will take another ride soon for you. coolsmiley coolsmiley
