Hi everyone, I am new to the board.  I am seriously considering purchasing a new 2014 Valkyrie.  A dealership in the St. Louis area has a bunch of 2014s and they are selling them for $8399.  That is almost too good to pass up.  I am in the Harley world right now, but have been riding for 45 years and have had numerous Honda's (but never a Wing).

Question:  Handlebars.  This may be the deal breaker.  I usually need to bring the bars up and back (I'm 5'8").  No matter how great the engine is, if it isn't comfortable for long rides, it's no fun.  I have researched seats, saddlebags, windshields and am satisfied I can equip the bike with what I need.  BUT haven't found much about handlebars or risers.

What options are there on up and back handlebars?

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

The handlebar issue alone is a complete deal breaker for me on that bike .

I'm 5'7" and I didn't need to change the handlebars nor the saddle. The Valk is comfy this way for me even on long rides (10 hours or more, from Paris to Berlin for example).  cooldude

It is hard to put different bars or risers on the 1800...

I put 1500 bars and big risers on my 1800, but I had to
get custom cables and lines and had to solder more wire
into what was coming from both control boxes. It was a
big project.

My 1800 has four big changes from new: big handlebars,
Russell seat, Traxxion suspension and Corbin bags... I like
it a LOT now...

There was an amount of struggle with the windshield too, so
I guess that makes five changes  Smiley

EDIT: can't leave out the Utopia backrest... six important changes Smiley

$8399 makes me sick! Bought my Valk when they first came out, paid over $17,000!!! But, I still don't regret it.

Like Mike said, it is a bit of work, but totally worth it in the end.  cooldude

Some guys have put on the 2" ROX extensions without any modifications needed.  One guy even put on the 3" extension, but he had to reroute some lines.

I paid 17 when they first came out too... I'm real glad I'm "done" though, instead
of just starting out with the 1800...

Soldering more wire into the control boxes sounds like a big deal, but compared to just
taking things off the new Valkyrie to get at stuff, like the throttle bodies, is the real
big deal. Imagine having to remove your car's dashboard before you could change
a fuse... kind of like that...

The Traxxion folks said my Valkyrie was way harder to work on than a regular
1800 wing... it is easy to hide stuff behind tupperware on regular wings, on
the Valkyrie most of that same stuff has to be "hidden in plain sight"...

I am looking at buying a Valkyrie and I see them advertised at about $9000 but they have close to $1000 in set up fees. So at $8399 what is the real price.

Here's the ad on Cycle Trader from St. Charles, MO (The dealer has about 30 new Valks).
