The web page was no longer maintained by the owner, but it is all saved here. https://web.archive.org/web/20180317161010/http://www.rattlebars.com:80/mtz/valkyrie.htmlHere's his best link on Ujoint. (click on each photo for more written detail) https://web.archive.org/web/20160523032210/http://www.rattlebars.com:80/mtz/ujoint.htmlAnd this from Shop Talk: http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/rear_end_service.pptxBTW, getting the Ujoint boot back on the swingarm can be a long frustrating process (get that swingarm up level). Many have reported that buying a new boot is a good idea because it is more flexible than an old dried out boot, and cost new is not bad. Also, after hours of foking with it, it's easy to tear it in anger (which lets water in and that is bad), so if you do tear the old one, you'll wish you had a new one on hand. $13.28 here (#8): https://www.procaliber.com/oem-parts?aribrand=HOM&arian=MOTORCYCLE#/Honda_Motorcycles/GL1500CFAC_(99)_VALKYRIE_INTERSTATE%2c_USA%2c_VIN%23_1HFSC411-XA000001/SWINGARM/GL1500CF-99-AC/14MBYXE1AMBY4F2500A/y

Motorider, there is also a Youtube, and also Shoptalk, Rear End Service, might help too. The web page was no longer maintained by the owner, but it is all saved here.
Jess I hate asking, but after you posted last time about Rattlebar being closed, except for archive, I looked for my link for the IS trunk tail light conversion, but after an hour couldn't find them. I think it was the IS Trunk lights link. Would you know the link?

THANK YOU!! That is exactly what I was looking for. I already have a new boot, and everything else I need for the job. The only thing I`m not clear on, is how much Honda grease to put on the splines. I guess I will just look at the amount used on the original installation and try to copy that amount.

Get some moly paste and some good waterproof (synthetic) grease. Bel Ray (my favorite) and Guard-dog are very good.
I err on the generous side on rear end lubrication (esp because I run car tires and don't need one every 10K), and often have some thrown out on the rear wheel (and other places) in the first couple rides after I lube, but I wipe it off and it stops.
Do the differential too, with synthetic. (80-90 or 75-90) You can measure it out, or when stone level (off the bike), just fill till it starts to run back out the fill hole, and slap the plug in. An ounce or two over the published volume would be fine (but not more). Over fill will throw out the vent hole on top anyway (and BTW, that chrome vent cover is staked in and not meant to be pulled off).
Take care with that skinny thrust washer (and get it back in).

The u-joint splines require multi-purpose grease or 3% moly grease, NOT moly paste. The shop manual contradicts itself, with page 1-20 indicating moly grease for u-joint splines, but page 12-18 indicating multi-purpose grease for u-joint splines. For moly grease, I use this:

Gordon, are you referring to the link to a site showing how to stick small led arrays into the IS trunk in lieu of bulbs (I think it was by Red Barber and Grumpy in FL)?
Sorry, not those ones. The one that turns the IS trunk lights into turn signals/brake/running lights. I think that was what they where. All I know is my link wasn't working, and I seem to have deleted it already, so I was fairly sure it was from rattlebar.

Well, if you navigate the Rattlebar archive link posted, if it's there you can find it. But I don't think it's there. It seems to me if you want to make the trunk run/turn/brake, you'd want to do it with a simple black box controller. That doesn't make them any brighter. Then, two sets of signals, or do you remove the ones on the plate?

Gryph, I only put a light (finger) coat of moly paste on the splines (I thought that was in the manual, and even got Honda moly paste), then cover it with a spatula full of Belray waterproof grease. I've never had a problem..... other than throwing excess grease out for a couple rides.

Mine are wired up with the trailer wiring thingamagig. But it's not necessary. Before I put the trailer connector on it was just spliced in with the bike wiring. You have to change the bulbs over to the dual elements. I've considered changing them over to LED's but I'm too lazy. I'm pretty visible from the rear as it is with 7 rear turn/brake lights.

I think some of those black boxes can even convert single filament 1156 bulbs to dual function.
I have run-turn (with a controller) in one of my interstates rear signals (with red lenses), and I'm pretty sure they are the original turn signals with single filament 1156s (not 1157s).
