Looking to buy a custom set of rims for my bike. Has anyone done this and can share their experience with me? I'm planning to have my mechanic do it, but want to know what kind of problems I will run into with adding a pair of custom rims and brake rotors

I've heard I may need a custom front fender, but another user told me his stock front fender fit fine

Not sure what you are looking for, but here is a FleaBay auction with a set of custom wheels that were already on a Valkyrie. I have no idea who the seller is, or the condition of the wheels. I do know from the past that they are reasonably priced compared to new ones.

They look like polished aluminum, so as long as they are not bent of gouged, they should polish up like new.

Dang, that rear wheel has got 4 wheel weights stacked right next to each other ! Kind of makes me wonder if the balance is way off on that thing ?

Or a tire installer that was too lazy to let the air out and spin the tire on the rim a little.

I looked all over the place for custom rims, but it just wasnt going to happen. As you may know went for the chrome route.

Custom rims advice

Don't.   Smiley

Either take yours to a coater and get them polished (and clear coated) or powder coated, or buy two backups and get them done, work them in at tire changes, then sell the other two (to recoup expense).

My choice on powder coat would be a light gray/silver (wash and wear) with the wheel slots coated a satin black or charcoal gray.  (on a black bike)

I like chrome, but not wheels, and think polished or coated can take more abuse.

Have you looked at Bikersimage?

I've combed through this entire forum and found a few users have actually gotten the Bikersimage rims on their bike with no issues that were reported...

Is there any specific reason though?

I have already installed a rake kit and lowered my rear end, the next plan was to increase the rim diameter and get a custom rim. Polished rim looks nice but I really want a custom look to my bike.

Those were my reasons.  (The OE wheels are good solid performers, don't look bad at all cleaned up, and much cheaper to modify than new wheels.)

And I didn't think too many custom wheels even fit our bikes anymore.

But if you are changing from OE sizes entirely.... I have no other opinion to give than don't.

The thing about custom - the front is doable with some work, but if you are going bag-less in the rear it comes out --- wtf...
The whole custom thing came out there's not a solution for the rear....at least not anymore.

Comes out? As in the width of the custom rim is too wide? He offers a rear rim as well, but I haven't heard from any users who have tried it.
