Say What You mean Mean What You Say

I've been searching online for at least as bright as incandescent LED bulbs for the fender and trunk of my I/S.
'Rated Vendors' on Amazon and Ebay seem to have a lot of bulbs with a high number of flaws according to the comments...10-15% rating the bulbs with a 1 star on the higher rated bulbs...top comments...overheating and outright failures. So even the higher rated bulbs still have a high failure rate.
It is rare to see 4-5 star ratings with no negative comments.
The reason I'm looking to switch..the sharp on/off feature of the LED's makes them more noticeable IMHO. With the trunk attached there a lot of bulbs back there. I'd prefer not to spend an arm and leg for all those bulbs.

You Might check out Superbrightled's or Custom Dynamics for LED Bulbs, I am sure there are others.
The rear turn signals on the IS have the 1156 Base, the Trunk lights are Wedge Base 12V 5W and 12V 3W. Put this info into the search on the Superbrightled site and you will see your options, I don't know if they will fit but its worth a look.

While BonS was doing the tail light mod for the I/S I sent my lights off to him. To me anywho it Was worth what I spent to have it done. Right after I had reinstalled the tail light assemblies I was on a P G R mission and some one following me stated-you KNOW when O2S hits his brakes. I also have a tail light mounted on the fender from a Valkyrie standard and I installed I believe a cob L E D with 9? L E Ds and I am Not happy with that L E D in the fender tail light. It appears to be brighter then an incandescent but it IS dimmer then the modification BonS did. And the BonS mod made all four trunk lights brake lights.  cooldude And after i had talked with BonS he informed me he had lowered the brightness intensity on my lights. My brake lights Are VERY bright-I'd like to see a set that have NOT been turned down! RIDE SAFE.

I didn't have BONS do the mod on my lights, but I did them myself after I saw some instructions of his modification, I put the 1.85" 48 LED Clusterz in the outside and the 1.25" 25 LED Clusterz on the inside, wired it up so all four are brake lights, they are bright. I wish I knew of a way to dim the running portion of the LED's, but they will get your attention.

I think LEDs in back are a mixed blessing.

I know a lot of guys have converted to them.

They sure have less draw (unless you use load equalizers to make the signals work at a slow blink, instead of an electronic flasher).

I have the big LED array instead of an 1157 in my std valk tail lights (installed on both of my interstate fenders).  The one under the truck (in the shade) is always bright.  But in direct sunlight, the one on my trunkless bike seems to fade out and sometimes looks like no tail light at all.  I've noticed the same thing following Hogs and other bikes that came from the factory with rear LEDs.   I can hardly see them in direct sunlight, but when they ride into the shade, it made me think they were hitting their brakes, as they suddenly got bright.

I don't have any experience with 1156/1157 straight plug in led bulbs.

There seem to be a whole bunch of choices, and how do you know what is best?  And do they all disappear in direct sunlight.  Brake lights may get extra bright, but what about just the running light?

Okay, The signal lights-1156.  Fender Tail Light-1157 (I do have the fender light)
The Trunk lights- Wedge 5W Brake and 3W Tail ?
Does that mean there are dual filament bulbs in each of the larger trunk lights?

Steel Cowboy did the original mod you can read his post here.  The picture links no longer work but you should be able to figure it out without them, I did.
