Thinking of buying the Rostra cruiser for my Interstate. Is this the one I should get?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/250-1223-ROSTRA-UNIVERSAL-ELECTRONIC-CRUISE-CONTROL-KIT-NEW-/222919027884

Are there any other add ons I need for it? Will have my mechanic install it, hes an expert with wiring. Curious how many hours in general it would take to install?

You can check Murphs - https://www.murphskits.com/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=369&osCsid=t7fad-Oq9zjm1OXccxIxk3

Their listed price is higher but they include the handlebar mounted controller, the ebay kit does not.

Murphs also offers a handlebar mounting bracket, which you will either need to buy or make to mount the controller.

I made my bracket for my CCS-100 Audiovox controller from a small piece of sheet metal, and located it on the brake mount on the right side. The IS left handgrip has a lot of radio controls that get in the way.

My CCS took a few hours to set up, mainly due to vacuum line plumbing which the Rostra does not use.

I'd suggest using  https://brakeawayproducts.com/product/7cp01-metric-and-victory-cruisers/as they are easier to install and VERY reliable. Note not compatible with Interstate model.

A throttle lock with a throttle rest work well together.

The rest you can set on the fly, which allows you to loosen/release your grip on the throttle. The lock allows you to remove your hand from the grip.

The lock works well on flat country, it holds a steady throttle position.

But I got spoiled riding the GW with the CC, it works off the speed, so hills/mountains aren't a problem. Love to be able to set my speed on a 2 lane Hwy and let people just pass me.

I bought the CCS-100, and am still in the process of installing it on my IS. 2 hours to just get out of town to the mountains where the winding roads start, make it a nice addition to the bike. I posted in my build thread, made a air reservoir fed from 2 vacuum lines.

A lot of us have had great success with the Rostra.  Also their customer service is very good.  If you have an I/S then the electronic motor can be mounted behind the dash.  For the the others it can be placed under the seat, etc.

I'd say it's one of those long half-day projects... probably a full day though if you want to be neat and clean on everything.

Recommend fully planning each of the main things you'll need to do before starting:
  • Mounting cruise motor
  • Electrical connections and Relays
  • fishing cable & support connection near throttle
  • connecting cable to throttle
  • Fishing control line and mounting handlebar controls
  • Testing and Configuration

Hope that helps,
Jersey

This is a long read but you'll appreciate the detail when you're installing it. You'll want to print this out.  It's at least a long day, and one of the most complex installs I've done.  But it goes easy enough if you follow Bob's guide and just do it.  Adjust as needed to work with your bike.  And on a I/S, you can put the main control unit in the fairing.  I had to cram mine under the seat.  The Rostra electronic CC is more reliable than the audiovox vacuum system.  I also have the Brakeaway throttle lock on all my Valks and the Magna.  It's very nice but is not a cruise control.

I added my info after BobB's well written guide.  BTW It's better usability to put the cruise control panel on the left side if you make room.

You'll need more parts than in the ebay pic.  The speed signal generator, extra magnets, the cruise control dash mount panel.  I bought mine in a kit from Rostra IIRC.  BTW they don't want to hear you're putting it on a bike.  Support stops then.  Tell a white lie if they ask.

I know this is an old topic but did anyone ever get the Rostra to work with the IS Speed Sensor? I'd rather not install the magnet kit if I can avoid it.

Jersey was working on a plug-and-play kit that would use the IS speed sensor. Don't know if he got anywhere with it. I ended up using the Rostra pickup, with an aluminum bracket I made to mount it behind the stock speed sensor, and some stick-on magnets from home depot. If you didnt know, you'd think it was stock. I can send you pics and more info, if you're interested.

I experimented with a few approaches, but nothing seemed better than just using a resistor to tap into the VSS wire.   I use a 720k resistor on mine, but other have found a 470k resistor works.  What that suggests is the specific size might need to be verified.  Would suggest starting with something like 560k or similar.  See how it goes.
