Long time no chat!

Anyone run into issues getting a new rear tire balanced? I'm in North Denver and having a bugger of a time finding a Mom and Pop shop that can balance my rim. I figured Goldwings were popular enough and that our rims would be fine. Did I figure wrong or did I just get unlucky with a few shops? Tire is mounted ready to go! Going to try a dealership tomorrow. If that don't work it will be off to find ceramic balance beads!

Read the thread. That all makes super sense.

I can see me machining my own set of cones in the future. I'll give the dealership a try and pick up the beads if they have never seen one of our bikes before. No need to waste time as they try to reinvent the Valkyrie wheel.

Well the Honda dealership was a no go. The manager said he hasn't serviced or done any tire work for any 2014-2015 Valk. Said he sees more Runes on the road than our rides. Not sure how I feel about that!

So balance beads it is. Will start at 3 oz and give it a ride. I put some Dunlop Roadsmart 3s on. Load rating worked out and they are supposed to be great for heavy sport touring bikes. Time to find out if they live up to the hype.

If ANY I REPEAT ANY shop says tbey cant  balance a tire I would never set foot in there again. JMHO
But beads will be best anyway. Started using them a few back and have had no problems at all.

I think it is crazy that a dealer won't balance your tire. I had no problems getting my local Honda dealer to balance my tires a couple of years ago. I did not purchase my tires from them- (saved alot of dough buying them on line)!  However, they did mount them. Is your dealer mad that you did not buy the tire from them, or pay them to mount it??

Ride-on will self balance the wheel AND prevent flats.
It doesn’t make a mess. 8 oz tubes.  Need 2 for the rear and 1 for the front. Simple

They did have a sign that said they would not mount tires purchased outside of the dealership. Mine were already mounted. I just wanted the balance. No big deal for me if that is why they turned me away. Next time I see them might be to buy a Honda Monkey. I can skip everything else. I do as many of my own stunts (maintenance) as possible.

I appreciate the suggestion. I've already put counteract beads in the rear and 1 oz in the front. Too late to go back now!

Go to a different dealer for the monkey.
