I just buried one of my best friends Monday. He had a lot of under going stuff and the virus was the straw that broke the camel back. He was already in a nursing home and his wife hasn't seen him since March. Roma was a great fellow. He is now better off than us. I had the honor of helping to baptist him about 6 months ago when he gave his life to Jesus. Our preacher got to visit with him and talk and have prayer with him about 6 hrs before he passed. As others here myself and my wife both had the virus and beat it. Some do and some don't. That is what so strange about this one. Doesn't affect everyone the same.

Now "shortness of breath" is being reported.  The virus seems to be progressing.

I admit I don't know the answer and don't recall reading the science behind the "one way" concept. I would hazard a guess that the outgoing droplets from the mouth have enough velocity to pass through the mask. The incoming, from a social distance of 6'  cooldude,  don't have the velocity to pass through.

Kellyanne Conway has tested positive for coronavirus.

She is latest attendee of President Trump’s event announcing the Supreme Court nomination of Amy Coney Barrett last Saturday to test positive.

Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Sen. Mike Lee of Utah, and Notre Dame President Fr. John Jenkins also attended the event, and all have since tested positive.

This all could have been avoided.  So stupid. So sad.

What I meant was that the infection of all of these people in and around the the administration, including the President and First Lady could have been prevented by simply wearing masks and remaining socially distant.  This did not have to happen.  It isn't China.  It isn't an assination attempt, as 98Valk suggested.  It's the stubborn refusal to accept the fact that the virus is a very real and serious threat.

Someone had the virus, they and a bunch of other people got together with no safety precautions and now almost everyone involved has the virus. It's reasonable to assume that all of those people have family and friends who have now been exposed also.

That's why I and many others follow safety protocols.

Fake news, right?

Sort of the other way around.  The mask will catch outgoing droplets.  Incoming droplets may be caught on the outside of the mask but you will continue to pull air in from outside the mask so that eventually they will make their way into you breathing.

The mask protects others from the wearer's breath, coughs, or sneezes.  It just doesn't protect the wearer.

And we can’t make a mask to protect the one with that mask on?  Still does not add up with me.

The N95 mask that health care workers use daily protects the wearer .

Medical facilities from what I have read. I am curious as to how many a day is the average, being they are a 1 time use? Also the number of gloves, per person, used in a medical facility?

Only time an N95 is used is when treating a know infected patient is being treated.

But the ear is never talked about for being protected which has "The middle ear is connected to the top of the back of the throat by the Eustachian tube which is lined with mucous, just like the inside of the nose and throat."

there is much written out there about people getting sick from catching something from the ear. There was always the added protection not just to the cold from the "ear muffs" used decades ago.
Cold season while growing up my mom was always cleaning the ears of five of us with hydrogen peroxide as directed to do so by the pediatrician we had. None of us ever had ear infections and very few colds growing up.  Doctors stop telling parents to do that when the drug companies found out they can make a lot of money by selling antibiotics for ear infections and start teaching the doctors just to prescribe the drugs.

An N95 with the little flapper discharge vent in it will allow droplets to escape into the air, to what number of microns I don’t know.

One of the issues I have with the mask issue is prolonged usage.

It’s been argued that a mask can become saturated with droplets containing the virus which a person can continue to breathe in instead of allowing the body to naturally expel anything away from itself. So in essence the outside of a mask can become polluted as air is drawn in and the inside can become polluted on exhale and rebreathed over and over again.

I use a bandanna if I need to wear a mask and throw it in the wash. My wife has been making cloth masks for the kids, herself and sells and gives away and can be either machine washed or hand washed/air dried.

I can’t help but think that an outgoing sneeze Is far more powerful than us breathing in. I saw a man sneeze many years ago, I was facing his profile about 20 feet away, it was a eye opening experience as it looked like a walrus.

Possibly. But.... yeah he's a good actor (As all successful politicians and/or businessmen must be) but if he's really on the bad end of the spectrum on the illness, this would have been an Academy Award worthy performance:

Well he’s where he should be for all purposes. It would be irresponsible for him NOT to be at the hospital.

He looked normal in his video posted about 6:30 last night.

He’s had 1 treatment of antibodies and is apparently on a 5 day course of Remdesivir.

He has around the clock observation and are monitoring his blood oxygen levels, breathing and everything else especially since he was given the antibody treatment.

He’s overweight but not obese and is in the higher age bracket. He’s The President and should be getting and should be given the best treatment(s) and medical care possible.

He’s probably pacing around like a caged lion just itching to get the he’ll outta there.

Mike, I certainly hope so. But if he has to go on respirator, I would hope he would activate the 25th Amendment process to have Pence take care of the job while he is recovering.

He certainly isn't acting like himself though.  Based on his personality and past behavior, I would have expected public addresses, multiple tweets stating how strong he is and how well he's doing or at the very least tweets about Biden, the debates or the campaign.

Instead, over a couple of days, we got an 18 second pre-recorded video and a tweet that said "Going well, I think!  Thank you to all. LOVE!!!"

This is not the Donald Trump we are used to seeing.  Really, the only thing we can be absolutely sure of is that he was upright and able to walk under his own power yesterday.

I’ve read 2 or 3 articles regarding his fundraiser here in NJ Thursday and the report was he seemed himself. Someone did mention he may have been tired but did not have any symptoms. I saw Tje Presidents’s rally from Duluth on Wednesday and he was fired up and having a great time, full of energy and not a single sign of being fatigued or off his game.

How that relays into how he is doing today doesn’t mean much but I have no feeling he is going to need a respirator.

I’ll bet by tomorrow he releases some kind of video...and there is probably someone who’s just itching to secretly video or photograph or even audio record The President in his worst possible moment and release it to the media.

I’m very optimistic this is all precautionary at worst, as I said it would be irresponsible for him not to be at the hospital, after all he is The President.

In a tiny glimmer of decency, the Biden campaign has temporarily pulled all attack ads against President Trump.....

Wow.  This is not good.

Evading the oxygen question repeatedly and evading the lung damage question.  Most of the docs there are pulmonary critical care docs.

This has clearly been more serious than we are being told.

Not that this is anything new.  Every administration lies about the President's health.

I have a few observations from the press conference at Walter Reed.  I wasn't aware that his physician is a DO rather than an MD.  If you parse the doc's comments about oxygen, it appears it may have been used briefly Friday morning.  My take is he was sick enough to raise real concerns Thursday evening into Friday morning, but the early therapy is showing results.

I noted that too... I go WAY out of my way to have a DO as my PCP instead of an MD, MUCH prefer their philosophy of care...

I thought you said you wished him well, but you seem to looking for (reveling in) bad news.

Dr. Conley clearly stated that Trump's O2 sat is 96% while up and walking around without supplemental O2 (which is quite good BTW).  2 of the doctors clearly stated that he has had no difficulty breathing or shortness of breath at all.  I have a feeling they may have put him on oxygen briefly either before or during transport to the hospital, which would not be unusual.
